The workshop concluded with an official closing ceremony featuring the presentation of trophies to the winners of the sports competitions, expressions of appreciation to participants and partners, and closing remarks from representatives of the organizing institutions.

The ceremony celebrated the spirit of solidarity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence fostered throughout the initiative.

Through sports competitions, community dialogues, cultural exhibitions, and discussions on handicrafts and livelihoods, refugees and host communities strengthened social bonds, promoted inclusion, and reinforced community resilience.

Convened by @IGADsecretariat, experts from National Quality Control Laboratories (QCLs) from #HEPRRP participating countries are meeting to develop the Terms of Reference and Roadmap for operationalizing the Ethiopia Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) as a Regional Reference Laboratory for Quality Control Testing.

Having received @WHO's Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT) Maturity Level 3 and ISO 17025:2015 accreditation, EFDA is well-positioned to strengthen regional quality control testing capacity and support other laboratories across the region.

This initiative, under the Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience Programme (#HEPRRP), advances efforts to improve access to quality-assured health products and strengthen regional health security.

Day 2: As part of the #IGAD Social Cohesion Initiative, today’s programme featured a community discussion and roundtable on the value and impact of handicrafts on livelihoods, highlighting their contribution to cultural heritage preservation and economic opportunities.

Participants explored the role of handicrafts in preserving cultural identity, strengthening social cohesion, and creating sustainable income-generating opportunities for refugees and host communities. The discussions underscored the importance of traditional skills and local craftsmanship as drivers of economic empowerment, resilience, and community integration.

Football matches bringing together refugees and members of host communities helped foster mutual trust, teamwork, sportsmanship, and solidarity among participants, contributing to stronger social bonds and peaceful coexistence within the community.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (#IGAD), through its Health and Social Development Division (@IGADHealthS), in partnership with the National Office for Assistance to Refugees and Disaster Victims (@ONARS_Djibouti) and the Government of the Republic of Djibouti, today launched a series of Social Cohesion and Community Integration activities in Ali Addé Refugee Village, bringing together refugees, host communities, local authorities, community leaders, women, and youth.

The initiative is being implemented under IGAD’s Regional Project on Protection and Durable Solutions for Displaced Populations, which aims to promote peaceful coexistence, social and economic inclusion, and durable solutions for refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities across the IGAD region.

Speaking on behalf of H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, IGAD Executive Secretary, Amb. Moussa A. Meigague emphasized that dialogue, mutual respect, and community participation are key to building resilient and peaceful communities.

🚨 IGAD Convened Emergency Ministerial Meeting on Ebola Outbreak.

#IGAD convened Health Ministers from Member States for an Emergency Ministerial Meeting following the confirmation of an Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in the region.

Linked to ongoing transmission in eastern DRC, this outbreak underscores the urgent need for coordinated regional action, strengthened cross-border surveillance, and collective preparedness.

Through the PREPARE Project, supported by the Pandemic Fund and implemented with WHO and IFRC, IGAD continues to strengthen regional health security and response capacities.

Preparedness saves lives. Regional solidarity strengthens resilience.

IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. @DrWorkneh will convene an Extraordinary Health Ministerial Meeting on the current #Ebola outbreak in the region and regional preparedness on pandemics.

The high-level virtual meeting will bring together Health Ministers from IGAD Member States and partners to deliberate on regional coordination, enhance preparedness, and reinforce collective action against cross-border public health threats under the Preparedness for Pandemic Response Project.

Together, the IGAD Member States stand committed to safeguarding lives and advancing a coordinated approach to health security in the Horn of Africa.
