I think the Indic R1a (L657 related) had increased freq in Steppe itself somewhere in Central Asia (broadly unsampled btw), then came along with admix and further increased.

If V1 ancestral profile was formed by ~1500 bce then it remained so. Steppe admix comes -> stabilises to 30% -> stays so over centuries
