Benjamin Netanyahu "needs a war" to stay in power, argues Ami Ayalon, former director of Israeli intelligence service Shin Bet. He tells me why he thinks the Israeli prime minister may be "sacrificing the future of Israel" in his pursuit of eternal war.
After 1,000 days of war, the mood in Israel is "somber ... but very much angry," political analyst @dahliasc tells me. Ahead of elections later this year, she tells me why some people are calling Netanyahu's coalition, "the government of the massacre".

The bigger story isn’t Watson’s arrest—it’s what comes next.
This case could test the boundaries between free speech, Capitol protest laws, and military rules governing political activity by active-duty officers.
I will follow closely and post more on Substack: make sure you’re following/subscribed https://t.co/8qM38G93wx

Watson accused U.S. President Donald Trump and vice President JD Vance of ordering military actions in Venezuela, Cuba, and Iran without congressional approval, violating the War Powers Clause and leading to U.S. casualties.
He also alleges they granted sweeping powers to an unelected donor, bypassing Congress’s Appointments and Appropriations Clauses, causing mass firings, service disruptions, and global humanitarian harm.
He also spoke out against what he says are unlawful detentions by DHS and sponsoring violence against peaceful protesters.

“Our Constitution binds us all together as Americans. Like countless veterans before me, military members serving now, I’ve devoted my life in service to our Democratic Republic. Always doing my best to honor my oath and protect America against foreign threats. But the greatest threat to our Democratic Republic is not a foreign one. It is us, we the people, not just the left or just the right or just the center, all of us together define who we are as Americans, and like it or not, we have all played a part, myself included, in getting ourselves into this mess we are all in.”
-Major Jason Watson

An unusual scene unfolded on the steps of the U.S. Capitol this week.
Active-duty U.S. Air Force Major Jason Watson was arrested while protesting in uniform and calling for the impeachment and removal of President Donald Trump.
Watson stood on the Capitol steps holding a sign reading, “IMPEACH. CONVICT. REMOVE.” before U.S. Capitol Police arrested him and took him into custody this morning. 🧵
In the first term, only a handful of folks DIDN’T think Trump was a moron.
The rest of the people I worked alongside — from Cabinet members to staff assistants — realized that the president was an idiot.
Take it for what you will. But that’s the truth.
#TrumpRepublicanCorruption is like termites chewing away at our country’s foundations. He’s given Republicans a license to drag—and they’re happily filling their offshore accounts while we can’t afford groceries and gasoline.
