🇵🇰 A disturbing video coming out of Bannu, Pakistan, and what worries me most is that we still don’t know what happened to the man in it.

Local accounts identify him as Hashmat Khan, the son of PTI lawmaker Zahid Ullah Khan. The footage appears to show armed men in plain clothes surrounding him and forcing him into a vehicle.

We don’t know who those men are. We don’t know where they took him. And, most importantly, we don’t know whether he is safe.

That uncertainty matters in Bannu, where militant abductions are a real threat and opposition figures have also accused state authorities of enforced disappearances.

Where is Hashmat Khan, and is he safe?

“Never in the history of Pakistan has any political leader been subjected to the treatment that I am currently enduring. Nawaz Sharif committed corruption worth billions and was nevertheless granted every possible comfort in prison. In contrast, never before has the innocent and apolitical spouse of a political figure been imprisoned under such inhumane conditions as those imposed upon Bushra Bibi.

I am enduring the harshest prison term in the country’s history solely for the supremacy of the Constitution and in service of my nation. The level of oppression and authoritarianism is such that even the water I have for ablution is filthy and contaminated with dirt, unfit for any human being. Books sent to me by my family have been withheld for months. Access to television and newspapers has also been suspended. I have spent countless hours re-reading the same old books, but now even those are no longer available.

All my basic human rights have been violated. Even the minimum facilities accorded to ordinary prisoners under the law and the jail manual are denied to me. Despite repeated requests, I have not been allowed to speak to my children. Political meetings have also been restricted; I am only permitted to meet certain ‘choice individuals’, while all other interactions are barred.

I am waging a battle against a 78-year-old system, and my greatest success is that despite unprecedented oppression, the public stands firmly with me.

On February 8th (2024), the people expressed their trust in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf by voting for you even in the absence of an electoral symbol. After such a clear mandate, it is the moral and political responsibility of every party member to become the voice of the people. It will be nothing short of disgraceful and condemnable if PTI leaders waste time on internal conflicts at this critical juncture. Anyone found engaging in factionalism within the party will be expelled. I am fighting for the future of our generations, and every sacrifice I make is for that cause. To create rifts within the party at this time would be a direct betrayal of my mission and vision.

The so-called government formed through Form 47 has crippled the judiciary through the 26th Constitutional Amendment. The way biased judges are now delivering blatantly unjust verdicts under these courts is visible to the entire nation. We must launch a robust campaign to liberate the judiciary, for no nation can survive, let alone progress, without judicial independence.”

As Imran Khan’s entire family (including kids) are abducted in Pakistan, a reminder that both @commonwealthsec and @EU_Commission have enabled the military regime at every turn. The @SGCommonwealth suppressed a damning report on the 2024 elections which only became public because of @DropSiteNews. Meanwhile @EUPakistan simply handed over its elections report to the regime that benefited from rigging the election!

The Commonwealth and EU have been silent as the elected prime minister of Pakistan languishes in a death cell, the military rips up the constitution, destroys any notion of judicial independence, outlaws freedom of expression through PECA, and is now collectively punishing Khan’s entire family because of a call to protest.

These “democracy and human rights defending institutions” are not dying because of Trump. They are dying because of their own hypocrisy!

Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan’s son Kasim says two more of his father’s sisters, Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, were taken into custody in Lahore, along with four cousins.

The detentions follow the earlier arrest of their sister Aleema Khan and come ahead of PTI’s planned September 27 march. Authorities have not publicly confirmed the latest detentions.

Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and approximately one thousand others are illegally imprisoned. Over 40,000 have been imprisoned and subsequently released on bail over the past 3 years. Those on bail are facing fake trials across Pakistan.

When judges tried to dispense justice, this illegal government and their masters passed the 26th Amendment. This gave them the freedom to remove or bypass judges who wanted to honour their oath and dispense justice. The amendment did away with seniority. The Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Sarfraz Dogar, was hand-picked. He has been tasked with ensuring that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are not granted bail. That is why he refuses to entertain their bail petitions.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan was also selected out of turn. CJP Yahya Afridi should have stood by the three Supreme Court judges who ordered that Imran Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital for an independent medical examination and treatment.

Yesterday, 16 September 2026, we witnessed the collapse of the Supreme Court when those same judges did not proceed with the contempt-of-court hearing against the government. The Attorney General did not even bother to appear for the contempt-of-court hearing!

In 2007, the lawyers brought down the dictator General Musharraf when they came out onto the streets to stand with the judiciary and defend the rule of law. In 2007, dictator Musharraf had removed only the Chief Justice without due process.

In 2026, the entire judicial system has collapsed. In 2007, we all stood with the lawyers for the restoration of the Chief Justice of Pakistan. In 2026, we will stand with the lawyers for the restoration of justice in Pakistan.

Pakistan Insaaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) should take the lead immediately and without delay. The collapse of the judicial system will lead to anarchy, something Pakistan can ill afford! The time to stand for justice, the judiciary, and the rule of law is now!!!
