For 5,000 years, one productive beef cow has been worth about one ounce of gold.
Mesopotamia. Rome. The Viking Age. The ratio held.
In 1926, a good cow cost $22. A $20 gold coin held 0.9675 ounces of gold. Almost exactly one ounce per cow.
Today, a young productive beef cow sells for $4,000 to $5,000 at auction. Gold sits around $4,500 an ounce.
The ratio has held for five millennia, and still holds today.
Still brings money to the county when people move in. they buy a house. Someone has to work on that house, buy lawn mowers, food, gas, grocery's etc.. Job market is awful in my area. If it wasn't for Amazon which people hated they built a giant warehouse also, there would be no growth in my area. Illinois is dying. Mines closed, Steel Mill closed. Only new things are weed stores and Mexican restaurants that don't put any money back into people's pockets.
Windmills are going to be right by my house and I'm not excited about it but... They are going to improve the tax base for our local schools. Add 6 full time jobs in a county with no jobs, and I imagine all of the quarries and linesman in a 30 mile radius will benefit. Your always allowed to move houses. It's not about me.
