The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is aware of the distressing incident circulating on social media involving a client and security personnel at the Home Affairs branch at Tyger Valley Centre, Cape Town.
We recognise that the images in the video are upsetting, and we sincerely regret the trauma this incident may have caused to the woman involved and to members of the public who have seen the footage. No one should experience or witness such treatment when seeking government services.
Our records indicate that the individual in the video did not have a valid appointment on the DHA booking system. It appears that she was misled into purchasing an appointment slot from a third party. This practice is illegal and exploitative, and the Department’s Counter-Corruption Unit is actively investigating those responsible. All DHA booking appointments are free and are issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
The private security guard involved has since been removed, and the Department is reviewing the circumstances to ensure that similar incidents are prevented in the future. We urge the public not to pay anyone for booking slots and to report such scams to the Department. DHA remains committed to improving access to services and ensuring that every person is treated with dignity and respect.

We have identified a City owned building in the CBD that was abandoned for 10 years. We want this property to be used as a workspace for young entrepreneurs. The decision to do this follows an X-Space we held with young entrepreneurs who complained about not having space to work. We are availing this city asset for the benefit of young people to work and do business. The building, located on Nana Sita, and should be ready by early 2026 to be utilised as an Entrepreneurs Corner. We are committed to implementing the Tshwane Economic Revitalisation Strategy. @CityTshwane
