Today at the #AIDS2024, Prof. @LindaGailBekker received a standing ovation after presenting the groundbreaking results of the PURPOSE 1 trial, revealing that twice-yearly injectable lenacapavir demonstrated 100% efficacy for HIV prevention in cisgender women. Conducted across 25 sites in South Africa and 4 in Uganda, this trial marks a pivotal moment in HIV prevention.

The Aurum Institute proudly contributed over 10% of the cohort from four of our sites. Participating in this transformative trial, which promises to shape the future of the HIV response, has been an honour and privilege for our organisation.

This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the leadership of @GileadSciences and the invaluable contributions of Dr @drmoupali, Dr Jared Baeten, Dr Alex Kintu Kintu from @GileadSciences , and Prof. Linda-Gail Bekker from the Desmond Tutu Health Foundation.

We are excited to announce the launch of @IMPAACT4HIV, a @UNITAID-funded project dedicated to transforming advanced HIV disease (AHD) care.

Our goal is to significantly reduce AIDS-related mortality by enhancing access to early diagnosis of AHD and opportunistic infections, timely initiation of prophylaxis and treatment, and supportive care.
