#OTD in 1880, the cornerstone of the new State Capitol was laid. The General Assembly held its first session in the new space in 1887. However, it was not finished until Sept. 1888. At the time of the first session the chambers, corridors, atriums, and rotunda had been completed.

The Spencerville Covered Bridge marker was stolen on May 28. It was last seen inside a white trailer also containing construction tools. There is a $500 reward for the return of the trailer. If you have any info call Dekalb County Sheriff at 260-333-0702.
