Ada was alone in the house when she heard her mum call from the kitchen.
"Ada, come here."
She stood up, relieved. She thought her mum was back from work.
As she reached the kitchen door, her phone buzzed.
A message from Mum: "I'm still at work. I'll be home soon."
Ada froze.
Slowly, from inside the dark kitchen, the voice came again.
Closer this time.
Right behind her.
"Ada.."
She felt a cold breath on her neck.
"Don't turn around."
@haaden_911 They guide your fingers to know you are at the right button.
Asdf for left fingers
Jkl; for the right.
Your index fingers would rest on those buttons and if you know the keyboard layout, you can then type without having to look at the keyboard
There is this corp member that was posted to a travel agency in Lagos from Anambra.
Initially, she wasn’t sure she would stay. She called me and talked about redeploying her NYSC to Abuja. Lagos felt unfamiliar, and she wasn’t convinced the posting was right for her.
After spending some time at the agency, she changed her mind. She decided to settle there and make the most of her service year.
She came in quietly and took time to observe how the office worked. How bookings were handled, how clients were attended to, and how delays had become routine.
She simply does her job properly. She responds to clients on time, pays attention to details, and follows up on travel arrangements without being prompted. Nothing flashy. Just consistency.
Over time, the difference has become noticeable.
Client complaints have reduced. Some clients now ask for her directly. The workflow has improved.
Management has taken notice and has placed her in a coordinating role, one that puts her above some permanent staff in responsibility and trust.
Since then, the atmosphere at work has shifted.
Interactions feel colder. Cooperation is selective. Instructions sometimes come with undertones. No confrontation, just quiet jealousy.
She hasn’t reacted emotionally. She remains polite, documents her work, and keeps learning. She understands that performing well can sometimes disrupt spaces where hierarchy was never built on output.
If you ever find yourself in a similar position, understand this early. Performance will attract attention, but it will not always attract support. Do not mistake silence or coldness for failure. Sometimes it is simply a reaction to change.
Stay professional. Let your work remain clean and traceable. Document what you do, communicate clearly, and avoid unnecessary conflicts. You are there to learn and grow, not to win emotional battles.
Do not shrink yourself to fit into other people’s comfort. At the same time, move with wisdom. Excellence should be paired with humility and awareness of the environment you are in.
Build allies quietly. Not everyone will be threatened by your growth. Some people will notice your discipline and consistency and respect it, even if they don’t say it out loud.
Most importantly, remember that your service year is temporary, but the skills, reputation, and self-awareness you gain will follow you long after. Focus on what you can control. Learn the work. Learn the people. Learn yourself.
Situations like this are not setbacks.
They are training grounds.
Unpopular Opinion:
When I thought about it deeply, I realized Mungo Park actually discovered River Niger.
And no, I'm not being sarcastic. His discovery was for the person who sent him. To his audience.
When you say to your group of friend "I don find one new beer joint where they sell beer at pump price" and take them there, when in future someone asks "bobs how una take find the new joint? " would you not be referenced?
Were people not going to the joint before you? No be person start the joint? Why not say that when asked? Because discovery is in reference to the audience.
Everything "discovered" on earth existed. But you attribute the discovery of planets, chemical compounds etc to people.
So the problem is with your people that took the history meant for Scottish / British people and consumed it.
And while you were doing oral tradition, your equivalents wrote books.
You've learned today.
You're welcome.
@MayorOfEnugu14@Harckhan Only women that have nothing to show that don't do this amongst this generation. Maybe a handful of decent ladies as well.
But it's almost become a natural pose. Some might even not have sexual intentions in mind. Just second nature
@Majindadi94@Ms_IUNA Faith is what you need. Have faith that anything you ask for will be granted. Even if it seems impossible, that's when God likes to show off the most. All he asks is that you believe.
Almost all of Jesus miracles, he always questioned the faith of the recipient first
Good luck
@VERITY_HQ@derinmama Nothing concern Agenda with quotes. Just find anything to use and dump down your fellow human who did nothing to you.
