🌅 To jointly address the challenges linked to burden of injury estimation, a new Task Force will be launched with the European Burden of Disease Network @burdeneu, under the leadership of @JAHaagsma and @RobbyDePauw
Just starting the workshop on “Projecting future burden of disease for informed public health decision making”, at #EPH2023, organised by @BurdenEU. Let’s learn and discuss!
Our @P_H_S_Official#ScottishBurdenOfDisease blog has just been published by @VHSComms. We discuss our recent @equityhealthj paper which explores the extent of inequalities in population health loss due to: COVID-19 and pre-pandemic causes of disease.

#COVID19 population health loss in 2020 was very substantial. Findings from the #ScottishBurdenOfDisease study show that pre-pandemic annual #DALYs due to inequalities in multiple deprivation were at least 5-fold higher than #COVID19#DALYs

How we value the life prematurely lost by death can impact #YLL, and on how we perceive impact of different health conditions. There are comparative and ethical advantages in using an aspirational approach, particularly relevant in the times of #COVID19.

Delighted to have contributed from the #ScottishBurdenOfDisease study to this #BurdenEU paper with @GMAWyper. Seemingly small methodological choices can significantly alter end findings. Capacity building and transparency of choices are needed to aid knowledge transfer. 🧵👇
In the #ScottishBurdenOfDisease study, we standardise rates using the European Standard Population, which has a similar structure to Scottish national population. By doing this, we are able to avoid the issues that can hinder effective knowledge transfer.

Lockdown was never the solution. It was to buy time while preparing to control the pandemic without it. Measures in schools & workplaces, efficient testing & tracing. Get a sophisticated control system. Didn’t happen. Now we’re back in the same place again but without the hope 😔
