I presented my HiTOP clinical utility article at @ISSPD1 today.
Predicting treatment outcomes is one important dimension of clinical utility—but another equally crucial dimension is user acceptability. By user acceptability I mean usability and resonance across all stakeholders: researchers, clinicians, clients, and the people who support them.
With the inclusion of lived experience speakers and panels, @ISSPD1 is setting a strong example of what it means to treat clinical utility as something that must be grounded in the realities of the people we aim to serve. It’s a reminder that diagnostic frameworks are not just scientific tools—they’re frameworks that shape how people understand themselves and their care.
Join us at the ISSPD Conference in Boston, Nov 9–11! Don’t miss the free pre-conference Lived Experience Day Nov 9, 8:30–12 ET: “Approaches to Advocacy: Learning from Experience.” Emotions Matter & @thebpdbunch will present! https://t.co/Eu7hDsSKIn

#WorldBipolarDay
Let’s commemorate the efforts of millions of people fighting against the stigma of bipolar disorder. As well as highlighting the work of mental health clinicians and professionals in this task of reducing stigma in mental health.
This is a special date to commemorate the work, fight, effort and professionalism of those who are part of the ISSPD. A day to highlight the contribution to mental health and PD, as well as the struggle of many women who strive every day to meet their goals.

Mental health stigma can have many faces, from criticism to inappropriate beliefs about people suffering from mental conditions.
Speaking freely under a clinical evaluation strengthens the diagnosis, but beyond there is a person who needs understanding.
