I think the answer to this question solves an exit risk crisis for the eu around growth. It’s like if every state had their own public market and own vc market. The capital isn’t pooled. Young people don’t want options, it’s too risky. Even many call it risk capital. The capital is there, the risk tolerance is not. And the drive, it’s there, but not common

@georgewritess I didn’t see a solution for the eu. Fragmented capital markets. A general sense of risk aversion. They need a growth engine. I’d rather see the eu succeed, they need a cultural shift I’m not sure how it’ll happen

There's a thing we've quietly stopped being willing to say out loud, which is that when you build a culture where an accusation of racism carries more instant weight than the body bleeding on the pavement, you have not advanced justice at all, you've just handed everyone a weapon and a script, and people feel that dishonesty even when they're too nervous to name it.

You could see it in the killing of Henry Nowak, an 18-year-old student stabbed to death in Southampton, whose murderer tried to walk free by claiming he was the real victim of a racist attack, a lie so reflexively believed that police briefly treated the dying boy's side as the aggressor before the truth came out in court last week.

That is what happens when a society decides guilt and innocence flow from which identity box you tick rather than what you actually did, because the moment the category matters more than the conduct, the category becomes the alibi, and the truth becomes negotiable.

And the danger was never about any single group, it's that contempt and suspicion assigned by identity never stays in its lane, it spreads, it rots the trust a shared country runs on, until nobody is being seen as a person at all.

The way out was never complicated, because you either treat people as individuals, or you watch the whole thing come apart.

American cities have distinct personalities but they’re often 2nd tier cities. Nashville is a phenomenal town. New Orleans. Baltimore. New York is unique, but not dissimilar from other large cities in many respects aside from the compactness. American Culture thrives in these regional cities and they have great welcoming populations.
