“This Is How It Starts”
by Babs Spake
I am German. I know this pattern.
It does not start with camps. It starts with permission.
With leaders who say some people don’t belong and crowds who nod because the words are wrapped in flags.
In my country, the state learned to turn people into paperwork, neighbors into threats, violence into policy.
Today, I hear the same machinery running in a new accent.
Illegal. Invasion. Criminal.
Words that make a body easier to shoot.
In Minnesota, agents of the state kill a woman, and the debate is not why was she killed but whether she deserved it.
That is the moment history leans in.
Not when violence happens— but when it is explained.
Trump does not need to announce tyranny. He only needs to teach that cruelty is strength and obedience is patriotism.
Germany learned too late that legality is not morality and silence is not neutrality.
I was ashamed of what my country did because people looked away.
Now I am ashamed watching Americans learn the same skill.
History is not repeating— it is clearing its throat.
The question is simple:
When it speaks, will you recognize the voice— or pretend you’ve never heard it before?
Dear @DollyParton …
There’s a very determined group of metalheads who are trying to get the organisers of @DownloadFest to book you to appear there in June ‘26. Although your roots are in country, we think you rock!
Please would you consider it?

@Fatsoma Hi. I purchased a ticket for the Forbidden gig at Manchester Bread Shed (13/8/25). Purchase was made on 28/2/25. My credit card was debited, but no confirmation email or ticket was sent. Please can you help?
Thanks.
Just got the brochure for the new season of shows at @castindoncaster The accompanying letter seems to imply that dynamic pricing may be being considered. Just a heads-up.. if that does happen you can ‘consider’ my membership cancelled.
