@MatthewBerman@bot@SpaceXAI I want to make one to check regularly for resale for the NRL grandfinal so I can get some tickets for myself and family. Fins up!
@dolphinsnrl This was the greatest game won in the club’s history. We just sealed the top 4 and we will storm into finals one of the favourites to win it all. And fuck oath we will win it!
@DrCameronMurray, please…
The Australia Institute IS misleading people and lobbying.
We can say there are more houses ✅ true.
There are more people ✅ also true.
But comparing them in percentage terms is NOT SOUND MATHS!
One is 10x bigger than the other.
If LeBron James grows 10% (+21cm) and I grow 12% (+18cm) it does not mean I’m catching him. It’s the opposite. Even if I’m growing faster in % terms.
The Australia Institute fed the Senate of Australia (that’s our bloody country!) completely misleading inferences on this data: the maths is simple and factual, the economics was pure alchemy!
“Dwellings per Capita” changes in your research are TINY (look at the axis scale on your other posts - not shown in your latest thread here).
Going from ~2.57 people per dwelling to ~2.45 people per dwelling over a VERY long time is still the same number of rooms per house / still the same number of families per home / still the same houses per person. We can’t divide a house into 0.12.
If I use @TheAusInstitute’s version of economics we would need an EXTRA 250,000 houses per year.
PROBABLY DOUBLE WHAT WE’RE CURRENTLY BUILDING.
What makes this more insidious is TheAusInstitute propagate this “economics” into the media and then social media feeds via people who don’t understand it.
Former employees try to deflect or defend the inference and data sampling - but it’s wrong!
The one amazing piece of insight from your dwelling constructions comparison is the period around 2015 - look: new builds exploded! The fastest growth of construction we’ve seen. What happened during that period? Why were we able to build so many houses then versus now?
(Guessing: It’s probably a combination of investment activity from local and domestic sources, union involvement, input prices to construction, better wages growth and productivity, looser investor lending standards… then we cracked down on Chinese investors, investors generally, inserted red tape at the state level… but now I’m just guessing like @TheAusInstitute - fortunately it’s X and not the Senate and I’m not an “economist”).
Honestly mate, it’s disrespectful to all Australians that we don’t have consequences for this type of behaviour within our most sacred walls. Let alone online.
The @TheAusInstitute lied about what the data meant (*not* that there are more houses or people - no-one is debating that). Then they shared that snippet of “research” to Australians during a sensitive time in our country.
And now tax policy is being built, and laws being passed, based on its supporting data in the Australian Senate. A total disgrace.
(Transparency - for all of us - is key right now...)
Would love to have @AlboMP@JEChalmers or @AngusTaylorMP or @TimWilsonMP on the Rask platform for a discussion about economics and policy. Happy for it to be live for 200,000 people to watch/listen in real time or playback. Nothing but respect for them - but Australian business and the economy needs their honesty right now.
