🇹🇿 Tanzania: 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA.

Group A featured the host United States, Romania, Switzerland, and Colombia. Romania finished first, while the USA advanced as one of the best third-placed teams to proceed to the Round of 16.

Nicknamed 'The Maradona of the Carpathians', Gheorghe Hagi was the driving force behind Romania. His spectacular long-range lob against Colombia in a 3:1 victory became one of the tournament’s most iconic goals. Romania later secured a hard-fought 1:0 win over the USA, sealing first place in the group. Led by Hagi’s brilliance, the team went on to achieve its best-ever World Cup finish, reaching the quarterfinals.

Colombia had a disappointing campaign. Despite a 2:0 win over Switzerland in the final match, early defeats to Romania and the USA had already sealed elimination. The most tragic moment came off the pitch — defender Andrés Escobar, who scored an own goal in the 2:1 loss to the USA, was murdered days after returning home to Medellín by local drug cartel members.
