Zakia Jafri, Gujarat genocide survivor and relentless voice for justice, passes away

Zakia Jafri, widow of former parliamentarian Ehsan Jafri, who was killed by a Hindutva mob in the 2002 Gujarat genocide and a champion of justice, died today. She had been fighting for justice since 2006.

“Zakia Appa, a compassionate leader of the human rights community, passed away just 30 minutes ago!,” human rights activist Teesta Setalvad posted on X.

गुलबर्ग सोसाइटी में अपने पति एहसान जाफरी और 70 लोगों के क़त्ल के मामले में इंसाफ के लिए लगातार संघर्ष करती रहीं. निचली अदालत से लेकर सुप्रीम कोर्ट तक की लड़ाई लड़ी. ना सिर्फ संघर्ष किया बल्कि कोर्ट को उनकी जवाबदारी तक याद दिलाई.

अल्लाह उनकी मगफिरत करे.

शिफ़ाउर रहमान आज असदुद्दीन ओवैसी को अपने साथ लेकर माँ से मिलने पहुंचे तो सभी भावुक हो गये, मैं ख़ुद भावुक हो गया हूँ क्योंकि एक माँ और बेटा 5 वर्ष बाद मिले है और 3 दिन बाद इस बेटे को वापस जेल लौट जाना है, शिफ़ा को अब ओखला की अवाम की मुहर ही जल्द जेल से बाहर ला सकती है!
