Rio Ngumoha is on the verge of agreeing a new long-term contract with Liverpool following tremendously positive discussions with newly appointed head coach Andoni Iraola, with growing confidence inside the club that one of England’s brightest young talents is preparing to dedicate the next chapter of his career to the institution he has always considered home, a development that has, in recent hours, been communicated to Bayern Munich’s senior leadership.

The timing could scarcely have been more humiliating for Bayern Munich, the self-proclaimed European giant now spending more time collecting rejection letters than elite talents, as the Bavarian club once again returned to Rio Ngumoha’s representatives in a desperate attempt to resurrect a move that was already dead, only to receive another emphatic rejection while Liverpool moved even closer to tying one of England’s brightest talents to a new long-term contract, proving once again that you do not knock on the gates of Anfield to steal dreams, you merely remind those inside why they never wish to leave.

For Bayern Munich, it is another expedition ending before the gates of a kingdom that was never theirs to enter and, as mentioned several times throughout my reporting, while some clubs can offer contracts, salaries and carefully rehearsed promises, Liverpool offers something money has never been able to purchase, belonging. Anfield therefore stands not merely as a stadium but as a cathedral where dreams are protected rather than traded, leaving Bayern to arrive in search of a transfer only to discover they had merely helped Liverpool write yet another chapter in a love story they were never destined to interrupt.
