Dear brothers and sisters,

20 years ago, when Dr. Manmohan Singh ji was the Prime Minister, the MGNREGA law was passed in Parliament by consensus. It was such a revolutionary step, the benefits of which reached crores of rural families. In particular, it became a source of livelihood for the deprived, the exploited, the poor, and the extremely poor.

It is a matter of great regret that, just recently, the government ran a bulldozer over MGNREGA. Not only was Mahatma Gandhi’s name removed, but the form and structure of MGNREGA were arbitrarily changed without any discussion, without consulting anyone, and without taking the Opposition into confidence.

The Modi government has attacked the interests of crores of farmers, labourers, and the poor, landless rural population of the country.

Twenty years ago, I too fought to secure the right to employment for our poor brothers and sisters; today as well, we are committed to fighting against this black law.

Gandhiji’s legacy being targeted; end of BJP is starting.

The final days of BJP has started as they are trying to end the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.

We didn’t think the BJP would dare touch the MGNREGA rural employment scheme which was enabled by Article 21. Now that it has done so, I think the final days of BJP has started.

The BJP is trying to finish off a scheme given to the poor of the country. There is no bigger shame than this. In the Congress Working Committee to be held on December 27, we will decide the modalities of the fight.

The Party and the government will fight against the decision of BJP on MGNREGA scheme. This is a national issue. The Congress party will protect the interests of the scheme beneficiaries. We will formulate a massive protest against this. We will not stop until the Centre revokes name change.

The Centre was supposed to bear the cost of MGNREGA in the ratio of 90:10 but the new scheme has changed it to 60:40. This will kill the rural employment scheme. This is a shocking move.

The ED took up the National Herald case without any FIR. The ED registered many cases, but nothing happened in the end. They were trying to do the same to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as well. The Court then turned it down saying the ED can’t file a chargesheet.

The Delhi police had issued a notice to me also. We will submit an appeal on this. I may travel to Delhi to reply to the notice tomorrow. They have accused us of donating funds for National Herald. If not for the party, who else do we donate our money to? There is nothing wrong in this. BJP has received crores of rupees in donation as per the media reports. There are reports about Election Bonds as well.
