Fireboy was one of the few artists you could trust to deliver an album you would actually sit down and listen to from beginning to end.
Now, listening to an album like #Zuko makes you remember just how special that version of him was.
The problem with Fireboy DML is that his old catalogue has given him too much credit for his current output tbh.
You listen to Zuko and remember this is the same guy who gave us LTG and APOLLO. The same guy who made Jealous, What If I Say, Need You, Vibration, Tattoo, Eli, Champion and Favorite Song.
Back then, Fireboy was not just making songs, he was building a sound, telling stories, creating melodies that stayed in your head and making albums you could replay without skipping half the tracklist.
LTG felt intimate.
APOLLO felt like growth without losing his identity. Even when he experimented some sounds on that album, there was still something unmistakably Fireboy about the music.
Then came Playboy, and honestly, that is where the conversation started changing for me.
He still had good records, but the consistency, songwriting and emotional connection that made his first two projects special no longer felt as dependable.
And before anybody says an artist cannot evolve, nobody is asking him to make LTG 2.
Evolution is supposed to show you new dimensions of an artist, not make you keep revisiting their old albums to remember why you rated them so highly.
Thats what has been keeping the likes of Wizkid, Asake and Burna up there.
Before we had a version of Fireboy that sounded hungry, intentional and genuinely invested in the music itself, now it’s all vibes and insha Allah lol…
Just that you fans will never want to accept it. The Real fireboy is long gone.. I think he tried to go back using the Adedamola album which sounded so HIM but man decided not to stick with it.
Fireboy fans, answer this honestly:
if a new artist released the same quality of music Fireboy has been putting out lately, would you rate them as highly, or are you giving him extra grace because you remember who he used to be? 💔
