The science behind our Independence Day starts in the ground. Fireworks rely on minerals like copper, strontium, and sodium to create vibrant colors. When heated, these elements release energy, producing the reds, whites, and blues that light up the sky. Happy 250th Birthday USA!
Mining was Idaho’s leading industry when it became a state. Our Great Seal reflects that legacy featuring a miner with a pick, shovel, and ore at his feet. 136 years later, mining continues to support Idaho’s growth through responsible practices that keep our land beautiful.
With the help of Simplot, Bayer, and Itafos, Idaho lawmakers saw how phosphate is mined and processed into fertilizer to grow crops across North America. Idaho's phosphate mines help feed our nation while ensuring land is reclaimed and restored.
