🎤 In her speech, Damali Ssali, Country Director at the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Uganda, shared important reflections on women’s participation in digital finance.

She noted that while digital financial services continue to expand, many women entrepreneurs still hesitate to use digital credit, often due to low confidence and limited trust in digital financial systems.

Damali Ssali emphasized that responsible innovation must be central to building digital finance that truly works for women.

💬 “Gender-responsive product design and trust must be central to how we build digital financial solutions.”

She also highlighted the need to strengthen women’s representation across the digital finance ecosystem, particularly in leadership and decision-making roles.

💬 “When women are involved in designing systems, the solutions tend to be more inclusive and practical for real users.”

She further emphasized the importance of simpler, intuitive interfaces and financial products that reflect the everyday realities of women entrepreneurs.

🎤 In her opening remarks, Leah Ndikuwera, Digital Economy Lead at Outbox Uganda, appreciated @FitspaUG and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (@UNCDF) for marking International Women’s Day through the FinWise & FinTalks.

She emphasized that responsible digital finance must be intentional in how it serves women. 💬 “Responsible digital finance isn’t an optional checklist. If we want to create digital finance that works for women, we must design for income volatility in our ecosystem, ensure transparency, interrogate alternative data, and treat consumer protection as critical market infrastructure.”

Leah Ndikuwera also highlighted the 10X Program, which is improving access and opportunities for women in digital finance. The program is implemented by @OutboxUganda in partnership with United Nations Capital Development Fund (@UNCDF), @refactory_acad, and @wituganda, with support from the @MastercardFdn.

She encouraged participants to carry the conversation beyond the event and into their organizations: 💬 “Just having a Women’s Day isn’t enough. When you return to your workplaces, don’t be afraid to speak up. Share your honest views in clear, plain language.”

✨ A powerful reminder that inclusive digital finance requires intentional design, responsible innovation, and voices willing to challenge the status quo.
