On this day, April 8, 1968, just days after my father’s assassination and the day before his funeral, my mother returned to Memphis to continue the work.
My mother was a woman of tremendous strength. In the midst of unimaginable grief, she went back to the very place where he was taken from us and led the Memorial March with sanitation workers.
She did not allow sorrow to silence her. She moved forward with courage, conviction, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
With my siblings by her side, she led that march not only in honor of my father, but in solidarity with workers fighting for dignity and fair treatment.
She showed the world that the work was bigger than any one person, and that love, discipline, and purpose must carry us forward, even in our most painful moments.

In the light of #Easter, let us allow ourselves to be amazed by Christ! Let us allow our hearts to be transformed by his immense love for us! Let those who have weapons lay them down! Let those who have the power to unleash wars choose peace! Not a peace imposed by force, but through dialogue! Not with the desire to dominate others, but to encounter them!
Even today there are tombs to be opened, and often the stones sealing them are so heavy and so closely guarded that they seem to be immovable. Some weigh heavily on the human heart, such as mistrust, fear, selfishness and resentment; others, stemming from these inner struggles, sever the bonds between us through war, injustice and the isolation of peoples and nations. Let us not allow ourselves to be paralyzed by them! #Easter
… BECAUSE like a DIAMOND that must transform, it requires heat and pressure. It may not feel comfortable. In fact the discomfort might have someone running in the opposite direction. Yet these specific conditions may indicate you’re PRIMED for growth.

My face when making the connection between TRANSFORMATIONAL, (sometimes sneakily spiritual) WORK and a record-breaking HEAT WAVE in the middle of MARCH. (1/2)
🥵A record heat wave and personal transformation are the same. 😀
Uncommon things happen in uncommon times.
No RIGHT time, just SPECIFIC conditions.
If you’re feeling the “heat,” it might be THE time.

Does anyone know what the police activity is in Point Loma right now? It appears a whole block is taped off and I counted at least seven police vehicles. @CBS8@SanDiegoPD
It seems I log onto this site now just to see messages from @elmo or @MeCookieMonster and anything else from @sesamestreet. Then, little girl me is very happy and remember what it was like to imagine a neighborhood full of lessons in community, love, connection, forgiveness.
