America burned Japan's first gift of cherry trees. All 2,000 of them, on President Taft's direct order.

The 1910 shipment arrived in DC crawling with insects and nematodes. Agriculture inspectors condemned the lot, Taft signed off on the bonfire, and the State Department braced for a diplomatic disaster. Tokyo's mayor, Yukio Ozaki, responded by sending 3,020 more, grafted from the famous grove along the Arakawa River.

Those trees have spent a century paying the friendship back.

Four days after Pearl Harbor, vandals chopped down four of them. Park officials renamed the survivors "Oriental" cherry trees for the rest of the war to protect them from axes.

Then came the twist. By 1952 the original Arakawa grove in Tokyo, the parent stock, had nearly died from wartime neglect. Japan asked Washington for help. The Park Service shipped budwood from DC's trees back across the Pacific and restored the grove that created them. When a flood wiped out more Japanese trees in 1982, horticulturists took 800 fresh cuttings from the Tidal Basin.

These 250 new trees solve a real problem too. The Tidal Basin is sinking, and a $133 million seawall rebuild forced crews to rip out roughly 150 trees. Japan offered replacements before anyone asked, timed to America's 250th birthday.

So the genetics run in a loop. Tokyo's grove seeded Washington's. Washington's saved Tokyo's. The saplings going in this spring descend from both.

🚨17-year-old Samuel Davis went to the Classic Mart & 420 Shop in San Antonio around 1 a.m. on Friday and tried to buy a 99-cent tobacco product. The store clerk refused to sell it to him because Davis was underage.

The refusal led to an argument between the two inside the store. During the confrontation, Davis allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the store clerk multiple times. After the attack, Davis ran from the scene.

When police arrived, they found the store clerk suffering from several stab wounds. He died at the scene from his injuries. Investigators reviewed store surveillance footage, which reportedly captured the incident, and a witness later identified Davis from a photo lineup.

Police also spoke with a coworker who said Davis was a regular customer who often caused problems, acted aggressively, and was known to steal from the store. After a nearby standoff connected to the investigation, Davis was taken into custody and charged with murder. His bond was set at $500,000.

I’m trying to understand the left’s argument supporting Karmelo Anthony.

Karmelo followed Austin Metcalf into the Memorial high school tent. In high school athletics, this is a provocation.

15 times, Karmelo was asked to leave the tent. He didn’t.

He then challenged Austin Metcalf to touch him and “find out.”

Someone pushed Karmelo. Per video, maybe two minor pushes.

Witnesses testify Austin Metcalf did NOT punch Karmelo or do anything that would cause serious bodily harm.

So Karmelo had no reasonable belief��the standard for self-defense—that his life was in danger.

Nonetheless, Karmelo immediately grabs a knife from his bag —which he was carrying illegally, no knives allowed on school property— and stabs Austin Metcalf in the heart, killing him.

Karmelo then throws the knife and runs away.

Moments later, after police arrest him and refer to him as the “alleged” suspect, Karmelo admits he killed Metcalf, saying: “I’m not alleged, I did it.”

So—

The jury was NOT “all white.” There were Asians, Hispanics & Arabs reportedly on the jury.

Karmelo’s lawyer wasn’t a public defender, he was a private attorney.

The left claims “racism!”

But facts matter.

There is ZERO evidence of racism.

And all the facts demonstrate beyond the shadow of a doubt that Karmelo Anthony murdered Austin Metcalf.

If you think Karmelo should walk free, YOU are the racist because you’re basing that on his skin color alone while ignoring the reality of the crime he committed.

BREAKING: Karmelo Anthony broke down in tears after the verdict was read, crying and shaking as his defense attorney comforted him, @Brooketaylortv reports.

Anthony could now face up to life in prison.

During the sentencing phase, Anthony's mother pleaded with the jury for mercy, describing him as her firstborn son and expressing her deep love for him through tears.

Prosecutors cross-examained her by asking whether she could still maintain a relationship with her son if he were behind bars — unlike the Metcalf family.
