I have made countless attempts to have the Management of the Department assist me; I was told, point blank, that I am seen as an adversary of the Department, someone on the “other side.”

Indeed, I have been treated as such. My employer funded the personal legal defence of an official whom it had found to have committed fraud, so that this official could pursue my dismissal after I objected to a multimillion-rand scheme I considered too expensive and on which I had declared a conflict of interest.

People sought to push me out so they could loot in peace.

I thank the South African media, and the South African public that has affirmed me. I thank my colleagues at the Department of Transport, who in their absolute majority, with the exception of some boys’ club that abuses most of us at the hands of Human Resources, have been helpful and incredible.

This is my final comment on the issue here on Twitter. I’m back at thirst-trapping and asking the question: Sizowagqiba Nini? My real quagmire, that I answer: if we can’t, we will at least attempt to.

I have accepted my fate: whatever form it comes in.

I reported this procurement to Department management in May 2025. No action was taken for a year.

On 19 May 2026, I made a formal protected disclosure, under the Protected Disclosures Act, to the Auditor-General, National Treasury, SCOPA, Parliament, and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation. It was only after that disclosure that any action followed.

The Auditor-General has since confirmed the substance of my disclosure: seven quotations for live-streaming services, each structured just below the R1 million competitive-bidding threshold, totalling R6.8 million, with R13.3 million paid to the same suppliers over two years. The Department disputed this. The Auditor-General’s conclusion, after considering that dispute, was that “the finding remains.”

I had opposed and refused to authorise this arrangement before I reported it. The Department’s own internal investigation found that a senior official subsequently fabricated a letter, using a Department computer, in an attempt to have me dismissed. That finding is seventeen months old. He remains my supervisor. Imagine my shock, dismay and hurt when I learned that in the morning of 06 September 2026 when the same author of a fraudulent letter was authorized by the Director General to write a statement that says I am self victimizing, a statement contradicted by two Grievance reports written by external investigators , one is withheld from me, by a Legal Advice, its withheld from me and a Health assessment. There has never been a clear case of gaslighting.

A clinical assessment commissioned by the Department has separately confirmed the harm this has caused me, and recommended a change to my reporting lines. That recommendation has not been implemented.

The forensic record establishing the above, and the computer from which it was drawn, are now reported to be missing.

This week, the Department publicly stated that my account of victimisation is without merit. That statement is inconsistent with its own investigator’s findings, its own grievance outcome, and its own clinical assessment.

I have referred this matter to the Presidency, Parliament, the Auditor-General, and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation. I have not yet been heard on the merits by any forum, and I am requesting, formally, the protection to which the law entitles me.

Africa just won a 450-year argument about how the world sees it.

The UN General Assembly voted 164–1 to back the “Correct the Map” resolution, urging governments, schools, publishers and platforms to shift from the 1569 Mercator projection to the 2018 Equal Earth map, which shows continents closer to their true sizes. Only the US voted no. Togo led the effort for the African Union.

This is not a ban on Mercator, which remains useful for navigation. It is a call to stop treating a 16th-century sailor’s chart as the default classroom and newsroom picture of the world.

On Mercator, Greenland looks about the size of Africa. In reality Africa is roughly 14 times larger. That distortion is not just aesthetic. Maps shape what people believe is possible—how students, investors and diplomats weigh the continent’s scale, resources and future.

The African Union calls this “cognitive justice.” Distorted maps have long made Africa look smaller and more peripheral than it is. A continent of 1.4 billion people, vast land, critical minerals and a young population should not be visually reduced to something comparable to an ice-covered island.
The resolution is non-binding and change will be slow. But 164 countries agreed that how we draw the world is not neutral, and that Africa has the right to be shown at its actual scale. Representation precedes respect. Africa is not a footnote on the globe.
