James leaves no room for a mortal/venial distinction.
“Whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.” (James 2:10)
You do not need to break every commandment to become a transgressor of the whole law.
To say some sins destroy the grace of justification while others leave it intact is to diminish both the holiness of God and the sufficiency of Christ.
I have no problem using the term “Mother of God” the way the earlier church did, to indicate that Jesus was always God and to counter views that Jesus took in deity at some later point after his gestation or that Jesus simply is less than God. In that sense, the title is about Jesus, not Mary. That’s an accurate use of the title.
But it is often used now as a statement not about Jesus and not to defend any proper Christology but as a title for Mary signifying her ongoing and special role as one with unique and persuasive influence over God. The modern usage isn’t a historical claim about the identity of Christ but an eternal claim about the high standing of Mary and an affirmation of unbiblical Mariology.
It’s kind of like the term catholic (note that I use it here in lower case). In the earlier days of Christianity the church was called “catholic” to refer to the universal church; all those who are truly part of Christ’s body. But now it is often used as Catholic, not a word meaning “universal” but a term applying to an earthly institution and its sectarian claims of exclusivity.
So, terms change over time just as RC theology has changed over time.
Admitting under oath that they cut the beating hearts out of babies while calling them P.O.C.s (products of conception).
Monsters. Evil monsters who are storing up the wrath of God for themselves.
Jesus didn't hangout with sinners because He wanted to appear inclusive, tolerant, and accepting.
He spent time with them to show them who He was, and how to live differently.
His goal is to transform lives, not affirm sin.
Mormons:
“We believe in the same God and Bible that Christians do.”
Also Mormons:
“Jesus is a created being.”
“Him and Satan are spirit brothers.”
“God has a physical body and was once a man who progressed to godhood.”
“You can work to become a God, too.”
It’s NOT the same!
Jeff Durbin questions Catholic priest’s claims that “the fastest way to get to Jesus is through Mary, His mother.”
I have a question too … Where’s this in the Bible?
Jesus didn't hangout with sinners because he affirmed and celebrated their lifestyles.
He spent time with sinners to show them their need for a Savior, and to teach them a different way of living.
"We're just supposed to love."
Typically, what people mean by this is to stay quiet. However, loving doesn't always mean silence.
Sometimes, the most unloving thing you can do is stay silent. And, the most loving thing you can do is speak up and kindly point to the truth.
You believed the gospel,
not because you were smarter,
not because you were righteous,
not because you were privileged,
but because God intervened with His grace and opened your heart to obey His Word, embrace Christ, and believe.
You mean "the only begotten of the Father in the flesh" don't you? Because in Mormonism, Elohim, the Father, is an exalted man from another planet, who had a god before him, who only organized this planet, and he engaged in physical, sexual relations with his spirit daughter, Mary, to beget the body of Jesus, who has become yet another god. He atoned for Adam's sin, leaving us to work out our salvation, including exaltation, to godhood, through the eternal law of progression, the power of the priesthood, etc. These are all foundational beliefs never even heard of in Christianity. Mormons of just a few decades ago said that openly (see LeGrand Richards, A Marvelous Work and a Wonder). Mormonism is the most polytheistic religion ever to appear amongst the sons of men.
Non-negotiable:
Jesus is God.
Jesus is the Son of God.
Jesus is eternal.
Jesus was virgin born.
Jesus lived a sinless life.
Jesus died a substitutionary death.
Jesus rose from the dead.
Jesus ascended to God.
Jesus is returning.
Jesus is the only way to God.
Jesus 2020. Confederate Flag. Noose. For many unbelievers, when they hear “Christian”, these images come to mind. This form of syncretism is one of the biggest apologetic challenges facing the church today. We must be clear about what Christianity isn’t as we share what it is.
