In one example investigated by the Commission, between 20 and 21 December 2023, in Sheikh Radwan, Israeli soldiers threw four hand grenades inside a house with 30 family members without any warning, severely injuring a five-year-old boy who suffered from multiple injuries including abdominal evisceration.

The Israeli security forces then forcibly entered the house, shot and killed eight family members, including the parents, and ordered the survivors to evacuate to a nearby school.

The Israeli security forces did not provide any medical assistance to the injured or assist with their evacuation. The boy was carried from the house to the school with severe injuries. He lost consciousness at the school, while he was treated by a doctor who reinserted his exposed intestines by using diapers and taped his stomach. He was taken to the Al-Shifa Hospital where he underwent surgery alone.

Later, the boy was medically evacuated out of Gaza and underwent eight surgeries, while three more were still needed, as of December 2025. The boy has been left with a permanent disability in one of his legs and has to use a wheelchair.

The boy and his surviving six-year-old brother suffer from severe mental harm and behavioural change as a result of this incident, in particular since they witnessed the brutal shooting of their parents by the Israeli security forces, including their pregnant mother shot in the abdomen and breasts and father in the head (see para. 244 in the Section (V). The Commission finds that Israeli soldiers of the 162nd Division, specifically the 401st Brigade and Shayetet 13, were operating in the area at the time of this incident.

⛵️ REPORT | Global Sumud Flotilla volunteers released testimony describing severe physical abuse, torture, and sexual violence following the interception of their vessel by Israeli forces. The flotilla says at least 12 sexual assaults were documented aboard the vessel alone, including anal rape and forcible penetration with a handgun.

Participants said detainees were subjected to humiliating strip searches, sexual taunting, groping, and multiple people were raped. Many others described rubber bullets fired at close range, tasers used on the face and upper body, stun grenades thrown into groups of detainees, prolonged stress positions under permanent bright light, and hijabs forcibly removed.

Much of the testimony of Israeli abuse came from what volunteers called the “torture boat,” described as an Israeli naval vessel outfitted with makeshift detention structures built from barbed wire and shipping containers. Detainees say they were taken one by one into dark containers where Israeli commandos beat and abused them.

Yassine Benjelloun, who had previously participated in another flotilla mission, described hearing guards say “Welcome to Israel” before he was punched in the head and ribs, kicked to the ground, and left listening to other detainees screaming inside the darkened container.

French participant Adrien Berthel said he was specifically targeted after soldiers saw his nail polish and mocked his perceived sexuality.

Veronica Otero, who witnessed the processing of nearly all 180 detainees over three days, said volunteers emerged with broken ribs, fractures to the torso, shoulders, and back, adding that some “were not breathing” because of the severity of their injuries.

Volunteers also reported being photographed during strip searches while guards laughed.

According to the testimony, abuse continued after arrival at Ashdod port, where detainees described further beatings, sexual humiliation, prolonged interrogations, and torture.

The organizers said the abuse they experienced over several days reflects what Palestinians in Israeli prisons “experience every single day… for decades,” noting that more than 9,000 Palestinians are currently imprisoned by Israel, including over 3,500 held without charge under administrative detention and more than 400 children. They also cited Save the Children reporting that 69% of detained Palestinian children reported experiencing sexual violence or sexual abuse.

The New York Times obtained autopsy reports for 14 of the 15 people killed in the March 23 Israeli attack on an ambulance and fire truck in Gaza.

The reports show that most victims—paramedics and rescue workers—were killed by gunshots to the head, chest, or back. Four were shot directly in the head [executed]. Others had shrapnel wounds. Despite wearing medical uniforms and traveling in marked vehicles with sirens, they were shot multiple times at close range.

Israel initially lied about the crime committed then later took responsibility once the lies were exposed. The 15 victims included 14 rescue workers and a UN employee. Israeli soldiers buried the bodies in a mass grave and crushed and buried the ambulances, fire truck, and UN vehicle.

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day.
