@9MonoNoAware@buctootim@alysdenby@JamesKanag US full-time median wage: US$62.6k
UK equivalent: US$52.4k (20% less)
Before considering:
Higher out-of-pocket healthcare spending in the US.
Differences in paid holiday, parental leave, and pension systems.
Cost of living - which varies enormously in both countries.
@DanNeidle And here in Spain...no ISAs, £4k tax free annual allowance, no tax free lump sum for pensioners. UK sometimes doesn't know how good a tax deal the average person has.
@CraigTribe2@lewis_goodall Every manifesto gets breached. Yes Labour was stupid to make commitments on tax. I didn't vote for them partly for that reason.
@Peston Small “c” pragmatic conservative economics would include rejoining the Single Market (which Thatcher did much to promote), scrap triple lock pensions whilst reviewing benefits - the Conservatives now want to simply fight on Reform turf. And will lose.
@Sonny496@JohnRentoul Bit like Robert Jenrick living in a manor house in Herefordshire with his constituency in Newark. Can't see him piling in on this. Lots of other examples too if you care to look.
@afneil I suspect BoJo the Clown never recovered from you asking about GATT Paragraph 5C when all he'd leant verbatim for his TV studio tours was Paragraph 5B - a TV classic! You'd never get to interview him again.
@NickLovesSpain Madrid 2025 v Madrid 2017. More pedestrianisation, more cafes, cleaner, less petty crime and more confidence. It now competes with London, Paris and Rome as a destination - not just Barcelona.
@NapierHolland@workingmum2014@implausibleblog Retards like English teachers, tour guides, ski instructors, musicians, marketing professionals? As a Brit, you now have to prove you can do a job that cannot be filled by any other EU citizen and get a visa sponsor. You live in Portugal, surely you get that?
@leighwright45@afneil No - it was Boris Johnson who surprisingly was pro Turkey. “I am very pro-Turkish” could be a reference to the fact that years before the EU referendum, Mr Johnson had in fact publicly supported EU membership for Turkey.
