Although some previous work has demonstrated that neighborhood diversity exposure may be impactful in some cases, here, we discuss reasons why it may be different for cognitive biases (generalization).
Since I have some posting momentum, it seems like a good time to say that I published my first first-author paper recently! In this paper, @zoeliberman and I investigate infants' generalization of food preferences across different language speakers! https://t.co/GsttSskWSJ
We find that more exposure to linguistic diversity at the interpersonal level predicts a greater likelihood to generalize food preference across different language speakers. However, we did not find this same effect for neighborhood diversity.
A really wonderful #CDS2024 this year! I loved talking to everyone who came to talk to me at my poster and also talking to everyone about their work! If you didn't catch Little Bear and I this time, you can find us at ICIS in Glasgow this summer!
@Shreya_Sodhi continues to shed light on how children in the US think about immigrants! Her poster showed that children expect immigrants (but not non-immigrants or travellers) will act like members of their host AND heritage country and that they like them more when they do!
How do Children's perceptions of biracial people's racial presentation differ when they use different labels in different contexts? Come see @LizJensen18 at her poster to learn about children and adults' evaluations! Happening NOW at #CDS2024
Do children associate religious beliefs with the likelihood to violate norms? @OyaSerbest_ finds that children think atheists will violate both moral and conventional norms but that their experience with these groups matters!
Do children use private correction as a marker of close friendship? @chuyiayang explores how correcting versus affirming in private guides children's expectations of friendship differently than other cues!
Last but not least, @CarlosSosaCdres closed out #HBES2023 with a great talk about how agent-based modeling can provide information on what factors contribute to people's mate preferences!
I had a wonderful time talking about my work at #HBES2023 so many great questions and wonderful discussion about how children use food to reason about nationality!
Had a wonderful time cheering on my lab mates at @SRCDtweets! However, @chuyiayang's work on children's perceptions of friendship based on private vs. public corrections wasn't ready in time to submit to SRCD! I highly recommend that you reach out to him for more info!
Last but not least, @OyaSerbest_ presented a great poster on how children in Turkey think about what can really happen! Little Bear loved seeing her present such great work! @SRCDtweets#SRCD23
