This event is part of a new 3-year series of #UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) #Coding4Integrity hackathons made possible through the partnership of @UNODC_AC, the UN Global Resource for Anti-Corruption Education and Youth Empowerment (GRACE) Initiative, #KnowledgeFoundation and @DFINITY Foundation.

The Coding4Integrity 2.0 series is aimed at challenging young software developers (aged 18-35) with the task of creating a digital #AI learning environment on anti-corruption within the open Knowledge Token® educational ecosystem.

The series is composed of four yearly events focusing on two specific technology components of the final AI product. This year's "Virtual Hackathon" is focused on #ArtificialIntelligence and NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens).

A highly collaborative effort between the #UnitedNations, Knowledge Foundation, DFINITY Foundation, University of Pretoria, Stellenbosch University and the National Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences (NITheCS) has come to fruition as the 2024 United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) #Coding4Integrity Hackathon in #Pretoria, South Africa, concludes:

After a day of inspiring opening talks, the weekend was dedicated to the coding competition where in-person and online participants tackled the challenge of enhancing and improving the code they received from our inaugural Coding4Integrity 2.0 hackathon at University of #Oxford.

Coding4Integrity 2.0 challenges young developers to create AI learning environments for anti-corruption. The series features of 4 events annually, for which 2024 revolves around educational #AI & #DeComm (Decentralized Commerce).

We began in Oxford a few months ago, and have come a long way in just two competitions.

Finalists from our #Pretoria competition have been selected, and now have 2 weeks to "polish and perfect" their work as they compete for their share of $70,000 in #KnowledgeToken and professional #InternetComputer developer grants.

Following a rigorous jurying process the winners will be announced, who then "take the baton" and continue to improve their code in order to hand it off to the next hackathon participants.

Only 4 winners will be selected from the 13 team & solo finalists. Who will the winners be?

This particular hackathon comes at a critical time, as we look towards the Summit of the Future that begins today at the UN Headquarters in New York with hope for UN Member States to foster international multi-stakeholder partnerships and collaborations to innovate education for the social and economic benefit of the nearly 2 Billion youth around the world. The Knowledge Foundation and Immersive Education Initiative stand ready to further this important work as we continue to advance the #EdTech revolution hand-in-hand with the world's youth.

This special event is hosted by the Computer Science Department University of #Pretoria (UP) from September 13 to 15 in collaboration with #Stellenbosch University, South Africa's National Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences (NITheCS) and the Switzerland-based #Knowledge #Foundation.

Opening talks and activities are on Friday September 13th from 1pm to 4:30pm, followed by the 2-day coding competition which starts in the morning of September 14 and concludes at 5pm on September 15.
