I made a mistake reading the story of 2 year old, Ivy Collins death.
I would definitely not read the details of what happened, if you’re already not feeling great right now.
Her poor whānau. That poor little kid.
I’m so sorry people are experiencing this much pain. 😔
No weather watches and warnings for Auckland.
Finally. Anxiety levels I’m sure have dropped too.
Still a bit of wind out there which can affect trees with soaked roots and already unstable slips.
A lot of rain means a lot of stormwater – when rain runs off roads or footpaths & fills the drains on your street. We’ve all seen a flooded drain or two lately. If excess rain is flooding drains, roads, footpaths in your neck of the woods, let our friends at @AklCouncil know👍
If you’re ok after the cyclone, but feeling hopeless about it, here are some concrete ways you can help:
- Auckland City Mission is accepting donations of food and money.
- if you want to help animals, text 4463 to donate $3 to HUHA
It’s too early to know the economic cost of the cyclone, but it’s an inflationary event. Fiscal policy is the best tool to respond, not monetary policy - we still expect a 50bp OCR hike next week. https://t.co/A7JkOerDWu
Update on restoring connectivity to areas impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle: We have teams in the air & on the ground working around the clock to get people back online. In Northland & Hawke’s Bay we have over 65% of our sites connected, & expect this to increase in the morning 1/4
Not sure the rest of the country understands how bad it is here in Napier. There is no power, no cell coverage, no fuel, no information, the only way in or out is by air. Civil Defence says “there are still large areas of the region we don’t have contact with” @NZStuff
Gisborne emergency connectivity is our #1 priority with satellite equipment continuing to be deployed to emergency and essential services. We've established small cell connectivity at Gisborne Airport, Gisborne Police Station and Muriwai 1/4

It’s has been a pleasure to serve you all for these last 12 years. If you’re ever asked if you have a cat, but don’t have the joy of one at home, know that you can answer yes; because I am yours and always will be x

Much to love in this photo of the Beehive bunker National Crisis Management Centre.
Everyone wearing masks, one guy with computer wallpaper of his dog, another guy with 3 cups of coffee at his elbow, but mainly all these "bureaucrats" working so hard to keep us safe. CHUR!
Just a reminder to all @vodafoneNZ mobile customers. If you have lost your broadband connection due to the cyclone, just let us know & we’ll put 7 days of data on your phone plan to ensure that you are always connected & can hotspot (connect your PC to the internet) Cheers JP
Absolutely heartbreaking stuff that they are still unable to reach the trapped firefighter in the Muriwai landslide.
I hope a miracle occurs here.
These heroes putting their lives on the line for us in the worst conditions. 💔
