@PatrickMayers4 Thanks Patrick! I’m glad you found it useful. I think encouraging the students to be involved in the composting process will aid them in having a better understanding of the gardens ecosystem.
I am so impressed with the idea of using #recycledmaterials such as soft drink bottle to create #verticalgardens The use of vertical farming creates space saving opportunities for schools with limited space #SDG12
I would love for my students to be given the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal perspectives in relation to agricultural practices. It would be great for them to hear about some of the first crops grown here in Australian such as yams and native grains #SDG12#UoNTeach
When developing a unit plan on #sustainability#sdg12 it’s important to discuss Indigenous perspectives - check this out - Aboriginal Perspectives in Environmental Education: https://t.co/TvejlAX91J How will you address cultural values in your lessons? #uonteach#Educ4750
@HalstvedtSharna Yes I totally agree! No I had no idea, I will have to look into that. That is certainly something the students would enjoy. We could even create a competition between classes or year groups to see who could recycle the most
FAO provides students and teachers with such valuable information about maintaining their school gardens. It’s so important that students can understand the process of growing healthy food as well as the importance of eating healthy food #SDG12#UoNteach
What a great cross curriculum opportunity for our students! What other art projects could we implement within our school garden for our students to create? #SDG12
Wow! Look at the positive impact that #wormfarming can have. The good bacteria in worm juice helps put nitrogen back into the soil. Worm farms have a small set up cost and then they are basically free to run once set up #SDG12
Composting is such an inexpensive way to reduce the need for chemical fertilisers and help retain soil moisture. Students should be encouraged to compost their food scraps but did you also know that cardboard, eggs shells and coffee grounds could be added to compost piles? #SDG12
Thanks for sharing Lachlan. I would love to find ways to use VR to aid my students in exploring #SDG12 there are a multitude of virtual garden tours available online!Wouldn’t it be amazing to take our students on a tour of the Royal Botanic Gardens in England! #UoNTeach#Educ4750
AR/VR technology has the potential to contribute to sustainability both directly by making certain processes sustainable, and indirectly by encouraging people to adopt more sustainable lifestyles.

@PatrickMayers4 Yes that’s a great idea! I think the opportunity for students to participate in classroom discussions without the anxiety associated with interacting verbally is really important. It gives all students an equal opportunity to be heard. Do you know of any software we could use?
Hoping to utilise this amazing initiative within my school project! They mentioned on their website that one school involved was able to recycle enough soft plastics to create a bench seat. I wonder what my school will create? Maybe something for our garden? #SDG12#Educ4750
We are excited to announce that the Plastic Police® program will receive Federal funding of $150k to further develop our model for expansion into other regions in Australia!
The Plastic Police®... https://t.co/Tj8T1v4Kh7
@PatrickMayers4 I think it’s so important that as educators we lead by example and show students alternatives for plastic use. Have you heard of the Plastic Police? They help schools limit soft plastic use. They even offer a starter pack which you could implement at your school @bags2benches
@LachlanMcCabe4 Thanks Lachlan! It’s often the informal learning opportunities that lead to greater enjoyment and amplify creativity. There is no doubt that classroom displays enhance learning!
I will be decorating my classroom with these Sustainability posters so my students are always reminded of the importance of sustainable practices. What are some other ways we can reiterate to our students the importance of sustainability? #SDG12 https://t.co/tjBa5ELV37
@LachlanMcCabe4 Yes! My prac school had VR and AR capabilities within their library and I was so amazed by the focus and engagement shown by my normally easily distracted class of kindergarten students. They were exploring different animals within their natural habitats.
Very pleased to have found this rodent-proof composting advice https://t.co/ykGpeLaN21 the #miceplague in #westernnsw is causing tremendous damage at the moment. Rodents love compost bins as they provide warmth, nesting materials, and food #UoNTeach#Educ4750#SDG12
