I saw somewhere before that the US nuclear plans have 4 warheads target each of the major targets to insure destruction of each of them.
It’s almost impossible to intercept the warheads in the descent. The easiest time is while the missile is in the ascent phase, second easiest in when the missile is in space but before the individual warheads have separated from the missile, third is the individual warheads in space before they’ve re-entered the atmosphere but then you have 4 times as many targets to hit.
