Take away, O my Jesus, the blindness of my heart, that I may know Thee; take away the hardness of my heart, that I may fear Thee; take away the coldness of my heart, that I may resist everything that is contrary to Thy will; take away its heavy, earthly sluggishness and selfishness, that I may be capable of heroic sacrifice for Thy glory, and for the souls whom Thou has redeemed with Thy own most precious blood.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have Mercy on me a sinner.
Gavin Ortlund just dropped a spicy short claiming the Bible has nothing like Catholic relics—and Jimmy Akin is having none of it. In this episode, Jimmy dismantles the short point by point, exposes a major Trent misquote, reveals the rich biblical evidence for honoring the dead and seeking help through relics, and shows why cultural differences don’t equal error. Fast, sharp, and packed with Scripture and history you won’t hear elsewhere.

@jhaugan@MichaelsRosary@JamesDueck You did post this:
“Churches and church leaders had weeded out the false ones and recognized the authoritative ones. Grass roots movement ... like the Gospel itself.”
Yes?
So you're saying two things that are seem contradictory.
- "No such organization existed" that "approved it."
But then you assert
- "Church and church leaders had weeded out the false ones and recognized the authoritative ones."
Which is it? It did exist or it didn't exist?
Can't be both.
Maybe you have a different definition for "organization" than the standard one...

@jhaugan@JamesDueck We know how the Bible came to be. What is your idea of how it happened? Which writings were selected and for what purpose was the Bible created?
Maybe I missed it.
When was the bible, as defined and as canon, established? Huff apparently asserts this was done before the Council of Nicaea.
Which books were included in this bible Huff claims was already established?
Were all 27 books of the NT included (Revelations? Epistles? Hebrews?) in this bible already established before the Council of Nicaea?
What is the evidence for each of these?
Answers to these questions were missing from the video.
And to your statement of not needing a council, I'm going to assume you don't think the bible fell from the sky. So again... 👇

@jhaugan@MichaelsRosary@JamesDueck 18:09 "What's key to understand is that the Bible was established and viewed as authoritative long before the council met."
This is misleading.

Originally published in Italian in 1959 and in an English translation in 1965, this book consists of a series of simple but beautiful daily meditations written by the eminent Latinist Antonio Cardinal Bacci, who served the Holy See as one of its principal Latinists for more than forty years.
Cardinal Bacci ranges across the great principles of the Catholic spiritual life, drawing from Sacred Scripture, the Fathers and Doctors of the Church, the writings of the saints, and the perennial wisdom of Catholic tradition. Particular attention is given to St. Thomas Aquinas, while numerous passages from Thomas à Kempis’s 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐼𝑚𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝐶ℎ𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑡 and other trusted spiritual authors enrich the meditations.
Written with clarity, warmth, and doctrinal precision, these reflections are suitable both for structured daily meditation and for quiet spiritual reading. Each entry offers the reader a concise point of doctrine, a practical application, and matter for prayer.

@residentreformr Communing like the 1st century means the cup and bread are “koinonia” in the body and blood of Christ. Isn’t it interesting he doesn’t say symbol or “anamnesis”?
I would think a Greek knower would be privy to these distinctions.
@BIG_SGT_D@Truth_matters20 So the criteria for the written word to be scripture is whether or not it's weak? Where is that criteria to determine scripture and canon in the bible?
