Reasons why black people hate Somalis:
1. We donโt identify as black. We see it as a foreign, caste-like system, and they canโt accept that. We donโt look like them, population genetics studies show we arenโt close to them, and even they say we arenโt black. Apparently, only Somalis arenโt allowed to say it.
2. They think we identify as Arab. In reality, theyโre anti-Arab and already hate you, so even after being told we donโt, they force the Arab label on us to justify it.
3. Jareer. It literally means coarse hair/coarse-haired person, but they turned it into an insult because it fits their narrative. Once Somalis saw how offended they were by it, it became one. Yet they call each other stray animals, tethers and slaves. Donโt let them convince you jareer is worse; it barely qualifies as an insult.
4. Islamophobia, evidently. Barya barely fazes them; when theyโre called it, they either claim the Ethiopian is Somali or give mild comebacks.
5. Jealousy. Somali women generally arenโt trying to change our features to fit conventional beauty standards or attain something we donโt naturally have. Yet youโll see black women lurking in Somali beauty appreciation posts while using the same accounts to engage in anti-Somali rhetoric. They fight race wars, often with photos of unwitting Somali and biracial women.
6. The men especially hate Somali men. They were usually the ones saying they werenโt black and became more villainised than Somali women, who were historically less vocal about it. Now Somali women are receiving similarly high levels of hate.
7. We are opposed to marrying them. Iโve seen this used repeatedly to justify genocidal levels of racism. Lack of access plays a much bigger role than people think; many people hate being told no. They donโt understand our homogeneity or ethnic loyalty and will call us inbred for it.
If you think this is only online and doesnโt transfer into real life, youโre wrong. A black woman recently harassed my mother, and Iโve had many negative experiences irl myself. All this constant hate online will always transfer into real life.
