Had a useful conversation with Congressman @RepHuizenga, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on South and Central Asia, House Foreign Affairs Committee. We exchanged views on recent progress and other developments that have a bearing on the India-US partnership including defence, trade and technology cooperation. Briefed him on our deepening cooperation in the energy security domain including diversification of sources of supply, and our growing exchanges on regional issues. Thanked him for lending his weight to the bipartisan support in Congress for the relationship.

India’s position is clear and consistent.
The so-called Court of Arbitration was illegally constituted in breach of the Indus Waters Treaty. Its “award” on interim measures and the status of the Treaty has no legal standing. India never recognised this body, never appeared before it, and will not be bound by its pronouncements.
Sovereign decisions on the Indus Waters Treaty remain firmly in India’s hands. The Treaty stays in abeyance.
