@IlvesToomas To get the lore correct, the one who made the claim about double positives not amounting to a negative was J. L. Austin, and Morgenbesser’s response was “Yeah, yeah.” (And though funny, this doesn’t refute Austin’s claim since the use is clearly ironic).

@Feldanow 1. By standard Fregean lights it’s obvious that they’re two different thoughts. A person who lacks the concept of truth could think that it rains without being able to think that it is true that it rains etc.
