The same bishop who ignored several disclosures of rape by a priest and the priest then killed himself. Not a single risk assessment was ever carried out. All on Crofts watch.
Safeguarding review found him guilty as charged.
For years he has repeatedly told the press he would like to meet me, the victim, and every single time i have taken him up on his offer he suddenly cant make it.
Flatly refuses to resign. Obviously rape, suicide mean nothing to him.
The sheer hypocrisy of this 'bishop' lecturing others on morality and attitude is astounding.

Archdeacon decided to give a public notice in church about my husband which was misleading, defamatory, broke ecclesiastical law & breached GDPR. Didn’t have permission. Churchwarden then didn’t know AD was coming & his notes don’t match the AD’s version.

[Kate Andreyev @KateAndreyev]

This & the ongoing abuse of power by Derby Diocese causes immense distress to my family.

Is Welby going to spend the rest of his tortured life trying to restore his reputation ? “Makin was wrong, I did nothing wrong, I was vindicated” (Quick qn, Justin: was Smyth actually stopped or brought to justice ?) Do you not see how offensive this is ?

“walk together, work together, pray together”*says @CottrellStephen (*unless you are a victim of church abuse, when we‘ll ignore you, when we will walk away, try and pray you away) @Jas_Sanghera_ @cathynewman @BishopNewcastle @JanetEastham @SteveReevesUK

Prof Jay was appointed in Jy ’23 to put forward proposals for independent safeguarding. Now, 22 mths later, all we have is workstreams, Project Boards, development of Safeguarding Structures. Actual progress:ZERO @cathynewman @JanetEastham @AleemMaqbool https://t.co/tbkFrFJR80

[Graham @Graham1munro]

It will only be thirteen years since it was drawn to their attention, and we know from Makin that four Archbishops and ten Bishops received the disclosure. 13 years without concrete action. @CottrellStephen @BishopNewcastle @Jas_Sanghera_

[Graham @Graham1munro]

Six months ago today, the Makin Review was published. But still no one held to account, implementation of recommendations: nada. Yet another 6 months goes by without truth, justice and real change @cathynewman @JanetEastham @AndrewGraystone @BirkenheadBish

[Matthew Ineson @InesonMatthew]

@Graham1munro @cathynewman @BishopNewcastle @BirkenheadBish @JanetEastham And STILL @churchofengland are protecting The Bishop of Oxford, Steven Croft, Bishop Glyn Webster etc!

Nothing has or will change until the likes of these are held to account. And nothing changing leads to more abuse.

[Graham @Graham1munro]

That’s odd Andrew, Justin Welby just said the Church of England would work so victims of abuse would be “liberated to rebuild their lives”. From what ? With what support ? The Makin Review cost £1.025m. Redress to victims: ZERO. @CottrellStephen @BishopNewcastle @bbclaurak

[Mark Stibbe Author @markstibbe]

J Welby now on BBC1 to @bbclaurak “I have said sorry to the ones who wanted to meet me.” Justin, you and I spent 90 mins talking about my abuse by Smyth in December. Not once did you say sorry. You didn’t ask me how I was. You implied you were the victim. This is v all sad 😢

[Graham @Graham1munro]

He cannot resist dissembling: “a few overwhelming weeks”. No Justin, you got to Lambeth in March 2013, and were told in August, so this was not crowding your desk when you arrived. You try to mislead. And was this disclosure not a priority ? @bbclaurak @AleemMaqbool
