@JeffStelling I think it is an attempt to discourage people from getting to their rooms early and then leaving the hotel for the day. If guests are kept waiting, they are more likely to use the lunch menu and bar at the hotel itself, which would never otherwise be a preference.

@implausibleblog I’m not sure why the debate has not been simplified. Essential items are exempt from VAT; non-essentials are not. When women have paid VAT on sanitary items, I see no argument why the luxury of choosing to privately education children to have an elitist start, should be exempt.
