#InformaticNOW#EyeOpener 👁️: The latest developments in the trial of police constable Noel Maitland in #Jamaica, as of January 20, 2026 shows the case is in its final stages after starting in May 2025.
#Maitland is on trial in the Home Circuit Court in Kingston for the murder and preventing the lawful burial of a corpse of his then-24-year-old girlfriend, social media influencer #DonnaLeeDonaldson , who disappeared on July 12, 2022. Her body has never been found.
Key recent updates:
The trial has lasted about eight months.
Closing arguments concluded recently: The prosecution (led by Director of Public Prosecutions Claudette Thompson) presented their case to the seven-member jury, emphasizing evidence like blood found in Maitland's apartment (with DNA linking to #Donaldson ), his efforts to clean or dispose of a couch shortly after her disappearance, and inconsistencies in his explanations. Prosecutors urged the jury to find the evidence that proves he killed her and to deliver a verdict that "aligns with the evidence," without letting emotion sway them.
#Maitland has maintained his innocence throughout, including in an unsworn statement to the court.

🇺🇸🤝🇯🇲 On the ground. In the communities.
The U.S. Disaster Assistance Response Team returned to Jamaica to assess how U.S. foreign assistance is supporting communities affected by Hurricane Melissa. In St. James, St. Elizabeth, and Westmoreland, the team met with families whose roofs have been repaired, visited evacuation centers, and reviewed health, water, and food support reaching communities.
Working alongside partners including UNICEF, Project HOPE, and the UN World Food Program, the team visited clinics, schools, water systems, and medical facilities, and heard directly from community members about what support has meant during recovery.
These visits help ensure U.S. foreign assistance continues to respond to real needs on the ground.
