The Government has announced the naming of a building in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in honour of former Prime Minister, The Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller (Queen Portia). I commend and endorse this move. Portia was responsible for modernizinng and expanding the overseas employment programmme, including establishing the overnight shelter facility to house farm and hotel workers in dignity. Additionally, it was Portia, who, in 1990, established the first $1.5 billion in the National Insurance Fund (NIF) and appointed a Board to manage this fund. Today, the NIF have over $250 billion and is a solid wall of protection for contributors to the National Insurance Scheme that was established by Lynden Newland in 1966. I salute Queen Portia for all that she has done for Jamaica and Jamaicans. I love you Queen Portia.
The United States continues to support Jamaica’s recovery from Hurricane Melissa.
Deputy Assistant Secretary Taylor Garrett (@USForeignAssist) of the Bureau of Disaster and Humanitarian Response visited St. Elizabeth and Manchester today to see U.S. government foreign assistance in action through @IOMJamaica and @UNICEFJamaica.
His visit included stops at Black River Health Center, Slipe Leased Primary and Infant School, and Bethabara Primary School, highlighting ongoing support for health services, shelter repairs, water and sanitation, and recovery in communities affected by the storm.
This work is helping Jamaica transition from relief to long-term recovery and strengthen resilience ahead of the hurricane season.
CCRP is happy that BOJ @CentralBankJA will be sharing information on JAM-DEX with our members tomorrow. It will make small transactions so much easier!
We will help to spread the word Gov Byles.👍🏼
Byles leaves BOJ still frustrated by slow JAM-DEX adoption https://t.co/UT3pLHGWns
Gratitude to @simonenclarke, @DahliaHarris and the @Smilejamtvj Team for having us this morning. We have to push for the Elderly Care and Protection Act - after the solid foundation laid by our Senate Committee led by @GoldingCampbell after the motion was moved by @floydmorrisja.
Honourable @AmbAPMarks, Minister of Efficiency, Innovation, and Digital Transformation will deliver her contribution to the Govt of Jamaica’s Sectoral Debate 2026–2027, on her portfolio of Efficiency, Innovation, and Digital Transformation. 👇🏼

With sadness we say farewell to our brilliant Auditor Ventry Foo who guided us for over 40 years & supported @ccrpjamaica and PRODEV. He loved his alma mater Calabar & had a great sense of humour. Our deepest sympathy to his beloved family. May he rest in eternal Peace 🙏🏼 🕊️
