You can’t have democracy without good journalism.
You get the leaders your journalism produces.
Pauline Hanson walked into the National Press Club — her first address in 30 years in parliament — and the press gallery proved the point in real time.
No costings. No detail on nuclear. No follow-up on who funds her energy policy or why it was announced at a gas industry conference. Just “coal is good, wind turbines bad” — unchallenged.
@GrogsGamut called it: “Congrats to the press gallery — you showed yourself utterly useless.”
This isn’t about Hanson. It’s about the vacuum that produces her.
One question. No follow-up. No accountability. That’s the journalism that’s enabled her for 30 yrs
The ‘ditch the witch’ truck billboards driving around Melbourne featuring pictures of the Premier are sexist, misongynistic & deeply unimaginative
Jacinta Allan & I disagree on lots -but sexist & misogynistic attacks on women in leadership are unacceptable whatever your politics
@ajamesbragg “Communist”? One can debate the worth of suggested changes to taxation but using the term “communist” is plain silly. And you are supposed to be a moderate in the party?
@tomwconnell@auspost Our local postie is great. Always waits for a while and is very careful leaving packages in a safe place. The parcel deliverers never hang around for longer than five seconds.
@tomwconnell@auspost Could @auspost also be alerted to the fact that some of us aren’t Olympic sprinters and can’t get to the front door in 10 seconds flat.
