Peace is not just the absence of war. Many women under lockdown for #COVID19 face violence where they should be safest: in their own homes.
Today I appeal for peace in homes around the world.
I urge all governments to put women’s safety first as they respond to the pandemic.
Former Green Beret @apruden08 shares the story of a Syrian doctor who lost identification, bank accounts & other important documents needed to start over. In this talk, he asks: could bitcoin & blockchain be the answer to protecting us in times of crisis? https://t.co/RfqEXHx178
A year ago I called for governments, companies & citizens to come together to protect the web as a force for good.
Today, we launch the Contract for the Web — the first global plan of action to build the #WebWeWant.

To truly bridge the digital divide, all sectors of society must be included.
I was very impressed by the @RediSchool in Berlin, where refugees and asylum seekers receive coding and tech classes, helping them integrate and have access to good jobs.

Science and technology has brought much development, and yet we still face many man-made problems. We are social animals. We depend on the community in which we live. Therefore, we need a sense of global responsibility, because the well-being of humanity is our own well-being.
"You don’t choose to be a #refugee. You don’t wake up thinking, I’m going to be a refugee. The only difference between a refugee & someone who grew up in the Western world is that we were forced out of our own country and homes, because of fear – not out of choice.”@adut_akech

From child #Refugee to president. We recommend you reading this moving story from @VairaVF, the first female head of a former Soviet bloc state, Latvia: "women can succeed even better than his favourite boys".

"Refugees give so much back to their host societies", @GuledMire, a community advocate and former #refugee reminds us of the strength, resilience and courage of refugees and encourages us to counter negative narratives against people forced to flee their homes.
