@AuthorGFAllen Writing is both a talent and a learned skill, but the skill side matters more. No matter how much intrinsic talent (or lack of it) you have as a writer, writing consistently, meeting deadlines, and improving your craft is what leads to professional success.

@StoryGrid Mostly, I just remember being five years old and uncovering the revelation that PEOPLE WRITE BOOKS. The thought that I could do such a thing filled me with a sense of immeasurable power.

@Sara_Writes1 The key challenge with a short story is it should be self-contained! It should be a satisfying narrative all by itself. One way to make this easier is to think of a story conflict that could be introduced and resolved in a single scene (though this is not the only way).
#WritingCommunity, have any of you been having issues with Amazon print preorders lately? One of my clients has repeatedly experienced Amazon being days or even weeks late to make print preorder available.

@AbigailWad39524 That's a weird complaint. Typically, erring on the shorter side is a good thing, especially from a debut author. 86k is plenty long enough to tell a well-developed story.
A warning for all you #writerslift people out there: publishers don't just look at followers, they look at engagements. If your followers have zero interest in your content, that's meaningless. There is no shortcut to building an #authorplatform.

Fascinating graph showing how very few male authors are winning Christy Awards anymore. Publishing (and Christian publishing in-particular) does tend to be more female-dominated, but even so . . . male authors, step up!

The point is, you'll need to dive into the deep end at some point (a full content edit). But if you spend some time in the shallows first (seeking professional feedback elswhere), the dive into the cold will be less of a shock and you'll get more depth from that dive.
