With the amount of new DfE, Ofsted and other expectations being placed on schools from all sorts of organisations to implement - should we be getting more INSET?
@Headteacherchat It’s not the job it was. Ofsted pressures, being ridiculously accountable for attendance, no money for basic resources (where is the money for library books?) - if I was 25 years younger I wouldn’t train for 4 years and saddle myself with student debt for this. No chance.
@smithsmm@cherrylkd@Ofstednews And now we have to go out weekly to do home visits to set up attendance contracts because we are also responsible for the children being sent to school, not their parents. What else can they throw our way?
The “MOT for schools” analogy is poor because it’s not simply pass/fail.
Schools r judged across many areas, with complex contextual pressures behind every outcome. Comparing both types of school as though they arrive at inspection in the same condition ignores reality entirely.
Ofsted like an MOT?
An affluent sch in an area with 💪attendance, ⬇️ SEND and supp families is the nearly-new BMW. It’s stressful, but manageable.
A school battling deprivation, CP, ⬆️ SEND is a Fiat Panda - dodgy brakes and a sticking gearbox. The closer the MOT,the ⬆️ dread
@Headteacherchat The same as I think about Ofsteds. Waste of time and money. To think we trained subject leaders to be ready to spout deep dive shite about disciplinary and procedural knowledge from Ofsted subject research guides. What a stupid game.
@MrColesDrama Never been on it. Never will. The non education people on there are generally ego trumpet blowers who chase the salary. If school leaders are on there it would just wind me up with their similar utter nonsense. They can all do one.
@TurnipRail The ceo of the company that got the government contract for these used the money to buy a new jag and have the interior fully upholstered in the same medium rare steak coloured faux leather.
Letting Ofsted reform themselves has led to a system that is worse. I had to ask the ed sec what she thinks of the concerns so many teachers and school leaders have towards this new framework. Listen to the full episode wherever you get your podcasts.
@james_xond I still remember all my best mates landline numbers by heart. I miss speaking to their parents, many of whom have passed, asking where they thought they might be and them telling me to tell them to get home by 9:00 if I saw them out later.
@WorkElizab No - they need to know more and remember more
…
About things they can find out from a simple search…
But they need testing on it 3 times a year…
And data shared with everyone…
And the data better be good or my house valuation will fall cos i moved here for the the school.
@cherrylkd Another layer proving that they hadn’t even thought of this. Oh - hang on…what about specials…oh let’s amend. Now all schools with high EHCP and resource bases need same discretion. FACT.
@dave_mcpartlin@Headteacherchat Working in schools where there are big things happening was always worn like a badge of honour. Not many can do it. Not many would risk it. We were once perceived by those in the know as the elite. We still are. We don’t need attention. We give attention.
