Dear MOH, we don’t want your sweet talks.
We want only ONE thing for ALL our medical interns and that is EQAUL TREATMENT! 📌
That idea of giving full support to government sponsored interns while offering only lunch to the rest is also discriminatory and unacceptable. We have rejected it. 🙅♀️
Pay ALL medical interns. They have the same qualifications and work under the same tough conditions.
What makes you think one group deserves full support while the other gets only lunch? Where is the justification for this discrimination?
#EqualPayForAllInterns
Dr. Chris Baryomusi said that the government is going to provide lunch to medical interns.
Well, it's good that they now recognize that interns deserve something. However, medical interns need more than lunch.
They need:
1. Breakfast
2. Lunch (which is being provided)
3. Dinner
4. Transport
5. Airtime
6. Clothes
7. Rent
8. General upkeep, among other necessities.
They are not slaves. They need money to survive, support their families, send some to their girlfriends, and occasionally unwind and forget the stress of hospital work with a bottle of whiskey.
Give them money. #PayAllMedicalInterns
Uganda Medical Association rejects government's lunch-instead-of-allowance offer to interns
UMA president Dr Frank Asiimwe said intern doctors require more than a single meal, noting that they also need support for breakfast, dinner, transport and healthcare

#pay interns ....@DrAyumeCharles@CHRISBARYOMUNS1
Numbers of MPs have been increasing every 5 years and we have never had a care where they failed to find 30m to pay an MP but medical interns increasing, now they can't find 2M for a medical intern.
It's not about increasing numbers, it's called priorities.
Government is getting bloated, duplicate agencies. You have ministry of ICT and ministry of innovations in with two ministers.
Ministry of agriculture and one for fisheries etc etc.
All these bloated government agencies have hundreds of employees and all get allowances and salaries but it's the 2m for 1000 medical interns they cannot find.
In all the 529 Mps in @Parliament_Ug, it had to be Hon @JoelSsenyonyi to raise the matter of medical interns.
Is there any @NRMOnline Mp who has ever raised a matter that affects an ordinary citizen? If he or she is there from the previous and present house, please put the video in the comment section I will pay it Ugx 100K.
By the way, it had to be the Leader of the Opposition to bring the internship issue to the floor of Parliament.
Sometimes it feels like NRM MPs choose to be blind to an issue, no matter how important or noble it is.
Can't they also champion good causes and speak up on matters that affect ordinary people? Why does it always have to be the opposition raising such touching and important issues? 🤷♂️

People keep saying, "Medicine is a calling, not a business." We agree, but a calling should never be used as a justification for unpaid labour.
A medical intern still pays rent, they still buy food, they still pay transport to report for 36-hour shifts, some have families who depend on them. Passion does not replace basic human needs.
The irony is that when you arrive at a government hospital in the middle of the night, you expect the intern attending to you to be alert, focused, compassionate, and competent. Yet some believe that same person should work for 0 UGX.
No profession delivers its best when its frontline workers are expected to sacrifice indefinitely without support. When we advocate for fair treatment of medical interns, we are also advocating for a stronger healthcare system and safer patient care.
This is not just about interns. It is about the quality of healthcare every Ugandan deserves.

We extend special appreciation to the Leader of Opposition, Hon. @JoelSsenyonyi, for ably articulating the issue of medical internship before the House.
The welfare, deployment, supervision, and facilitation of medical interns are not minor administrative concerns. They directly affect service delivery, patient safety, and the future of Uganda’s health workforce.
Thank you for giving this matter the attention it deserves.
