@AskMichaelTaiwo Their MLS league has to get winners and losers. Relegation makes teams sit up. Which is that, you play a full season and nobody is relegated or punished for not showing up enough.

Owning Up to Leadership Failures and Political Responsibility
This morning, I listened to the British Prime Minister’s speech announcing his planned resignation in July. As a keen observer of global politics, my primary interest lies in examining what successful nations do right and the structural factors that cause others to lag or struggle with governance and development.
The Prime Minister’s planned resignation comes amid mounting public frustration over a stagnant economy, a worsening cost-of-living crisis, and a perceived failure to honour key campaign pledges.
Looking inward in our dear country, we can recall our own situation. Before 2015, our President on several occasions championed the call for the then President Goodluck Jonathan to resign over economic hardship and insecurity affecting Nigerians. During the Chibok school kidnapping incident, he demanded the immediate resignation of President Jonathan, arguing that the government had failed in its most fundamental duty of protecting lives.
During the 2023 election campaign, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made several promises, including improved electricity supply. He also challenged the electorate not to vote for him for a second term if he failed to deliver on those commitments—particularly in providing stable power, fighting corruption, and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
At present, however, these conditions have worsened. Electricity supply remains unreliable, insecurity has intensified in many areas, including kidnappings, and economic hardship has deepened rather than eased. Similar concerns are reflected across other critical sectors such as security, infrastructure, transportation, and anti-corruption efforts, all of which have regressed. We are in the worst possible condition.
I, therefore, join Nigerians of goodwill in calling for the resignation of the President over monumental failure in governance. Such a gesture would help enthrone a political culture rooted in accountability and responsibility, rather than further entrenching impunity. It would also send a powerful message that public office is a sacred trust, not an entitlement, and help build a society in which future leaders understand that failure carries consequences. Only by ending the culture of impunity can we secure a better future for the society our children will inherit in a New Nigeria that is possible. -PO
I've been thinking about something.
Through the Olympiads, Maths Quizzes, and competitions we run, we come across some exceptionally brilliant children. Not just students who score high once, but young people who consistently demonstrate extraordinary problem-solving ability.
What if companies could identify and invest in these students early?
Not as charity.
As talent investment.
Imagine a company picking a brilliant 14 or 15-year-old student, funding their education, providing mentorship, laptops, internships, exposure, and opportunities throughout secondary school and university.
In return, the student gains a clear pathway into a career, while the company gets early access to exceptional talent. We can all agree that finding exceptional talents is high, and with an early investment a company can access this privilege.
We do this for sports.
We do this for entertainment.
Why don't we do it for intellectual talent?
Some of these children will become future engineers, scientists, founders, researchers, and innovators. The challenge is that many brilliant young people never get the support they need at the stage when it matters most.
Perhaps we need to start thinking about academic talent the same way the world thinks about football talent.
Does this make sense?
From observation though, some very exceptional students don’t turn out an great employees only. And infact, most get derailed through that employment pathway, they thrive on their own. So tying them to a particular company because they provided for their education might be counterproductive. I still prefer the the Ivy-league scholarship pathway for them. Most of them become founders from school even, or follow entirely a different path.
What I would suggest is creating a pool, where companies who support these initiative get access to those who would want to work, when they’re available.
Happy birthday to illustrious and distinguished Nigerians.
A highlight of my weekend was attending the special birthday celebrations of two distinguished Nigerians whose lives continue to reflect service, leadership, and nation-building.
The first was His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe (Agbogidi), CFR, the Obi of Onitsha and Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University. He is a respected symbol of cultural heritage, enterprise, and traditional leadership, who marked his 85th birthday. I worked closely with him in my eight years as Governor, where he showed a passion for good governance. His life and reign continue to represent dignity, continuity, and the preservation of our rich cultural identity.
Also celebrated was Chief Yomi Edu, former Minister of the Federal Republic, who turned 80. His years of public service and contributions to the corporate world and national development were duly honoured by family, friends, and well-wishers.
The occasion was further graced by eminent personalities, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the former President of Ghana, the Governor of Lagos State, captains of industry, former governors, and other distinguished guests from across Nigeria and Africa at large. It was a gathering that reflected deep respect across political, cultural, and generational lines.
Moments like this remind us of the value of longevity, service, and the importance of celebrating those who have contributed in various ways to the growth of our nation and continent.
We continue to pray that God grants them good health, strength, and many more fruitful years ahead. -PO
