Leaves donโt just change color for the heck of it. They change with the seasons, depending on cooling temperatures and how much sunlight they receive. It's a balance of carotenes & xanthophyll pigments against chlorophyll -- which relies on sunlight to win https://t.co/ZWwQg5kEIq
Teaching science can be a challenge when you walk the line between fun and necessary drudgery. That's where the magic of problem based learning comes in -- it makes the concepts relevant and gives inherent motivation to learn more in depth. But did you know that there are others?

Spring fever has hit us all, making us a bit like Godzilla lately. Anyone else feeling the need to rampage around freely?
Here it's manifested as a cleaning frenzy, organization craze, and much, much hiking any day it's not raining. And even once in a while when it is.
The most creative things you can do for science is let your kid's imagination run wild. What ifs are the most natural thing in the world. Let them play & when you put it in an organized fashion, it becomes a research journal. This printable is FREE. https://t.co/bDlXyUnJbt
The ground ivy is out, making a carpet of the land along with the clover. Did you know this weed is high is saponins, making it a natural soap? It used to be a plant that our ancestors used to wash their clothes. Simply soak the plants in water to release it.
What is your go-to when you and/or your kids are overwhelmed with big feelings and need to be ground? Share in the comments and help us all out. We all need more tools for the toolbox.
When people ask, what's an important skill outside of math for kids to master with science, I always say communication. This includes writing, spelling, and grammar. Without great communication skills, you're misunderstood.
In the modern age of internet, you might think that having confidence is better when it comes to scicomm and building a business in science. It's not. A lack of self-esteem a good thing because it keeps you honest and humble, which also keeps you hungry. https://t.co/Z6YAfeV8OR
Summer parties are around the corner, and this frugal activity is a sneaky fun way to teach 5 science topics at once. Get the low down and the template in the post.
Look what we found! It's a mantis egg nest! Praying mantis lay their eggs on tall grass so that when the babies hatch, they will have plenty of readily available food. Inside of this hard little shell there are thousands of eggs. Only ~100 will have survived winter and hatch.
This fun, thrifty, hands on science activity is great for teaching 5 different STEM concepts with construction paper and a makeshift ramp. Take some play time to race paper horses soon -- or challenge friends at a birthday party. https://t.co/b5w1UgYEfV
The key is balance. The other keys is acceptance and discipline.
Humans are complicated. We have all kinds of emotions. And yet, people are always trying to show only the bright, peaceful side. We have both. We can be both.
WFH Mom: Science doesn't apply to what I sell. It's make up.
Me: Uh, yes it does. Look at the ingredients on the tube. Do you know what each of those ingredients does in there and how they absorb through the skin?
Scicomm is for everyone selling anything. https://t.co/LXC3AqDtp8
My reaction when I hear someone glossed over a topic without context and connecting topics.
When studying something, context is useful. Don't ignore the story, drama, and egotistical fights behind the current reality and accepted ideas. It makes things more fun.
Throwback to when we talked with Elena, Co-founder, COO and Director of R&D at Influit Energy, LLC! Great info for kids wanting to become independent scientists on what it really takes to do it. https://t.co/5NozQDYpjO
There are a plethora of conspiracy theories out there. The science-based ones like HAARP, it's not hard to contact the scientists and ask them what's up. They happily, and nerdily talk about their sciences. Not well, mind you, as they aren't natural science communicators.
