@dorsonkieffer This is exactly how it works and is intended. Most DMs will allow an ally to perform the contested check to get their ally out. Alternatively, some way of inflicting the Incapacitated condition on the Mind Flayer will force the grapple to end.

@ChrisHonkala Apparently it’s easier to suspend disbelief about dragons and devils casting spells while adventurers drink magical elixirs and swing a sword FOUR times than to accept… tacos 🤦‍♂️

@DnDBeyond please remove the split between the "D&D Free Rules" and "Player's Handbook 2024" content. When searching for spells, I shouldn't have to select both given that everything is in the 2024 PHB. It's counterintuitive. #dnd2024 #dnd
