COMMENTARY:
The Gen Z Obsession: Will It Really Win You the Campaign?
“We need to attract Gen Z.” It’s one of the most overused phrases in modern marketing. Yes, Gen Z is influential and digitally dominant but let’s be honest, not every campaign needs to centre on them. Many brands are chasing trends, mimicking memes, and hiring the youngest person in the room, hoping for virality. But Gen Z can spot forced content in seconds.
Here’s the truth: Gen Z isn’t always your buyer. In many markets, Millennials and Gen X hold the real spending power.
Before jumping on the next TikTok trend or using Gen Z slang in your caption, pause and ask:
🔹 What are we really trying to say?
🔹 Who are we talking to?
🔹 Is this truly relevant, or are we just trying to look cool?
Authenticity will always matter more than trend-chasing.
