Ember barley (left) alongside Goldie oats (right) south of Wagga Wagga NSW. Sown on 11 April, and photo taken 6 weeks later, shows excellent establishment of these varieties, as well as the prostrate growth habit of Ember compared with the high early vigour of the Goldie dual purpose oat which will mature with a tall plant height with good panicle emergence.
InterGrain has been on the ground in Japan, connecting with key end users in the premium udon noodle market.
@jfredgodoy, InterGrain’s Udon Wheat Breeder (second from right), is undertaking official noodle sensory testing alongside representatives from Japanese flour millers Nisshin and Nippon, and @larisacato of @GrainsAustralia, putting two brand new Australian Noodle Wheat (ANW) varieties, IG-Quokka and IG-Collie, to the test.
Officially launched in Japan this week, IG-Quokka and IG-Collie represent the next generation of noodle wheat, developed to meet the exacting quality standards of this long-standing and highly valued market.

Partnering with @GRDCNorth with this sowing depth trial @TosariCropRC near Millmerran on the southern Darling Downs of Qld, evaluating the opportunity to sow deeper with oats, to support the oats industry in the northern cropping region.
@InterGrain1#Oats trial is looking promising. #MinnieOats is showing good ability to establish from depth (80mm) with just 16% reduction in plants from shallow planting. Compared to LRPB Lancer resulting in 40% reduction from shallow planting. @MCA_Ag_@GRDCNorth
InterGrain and @Laconik_FT are bridging the gap from trial plot to paddock. Last week, @G_ctrain and @JackLaconik01 were onsite to help seed wheat trials in Goomalling and Toodyay, comparing paddock-scale performance with current varieties. Variety trials are underway across Australia—we're looking forward to seeing the results!
Soldier CL barley going in at Ben Creek’s farm in Boyup Brook WA this week. This crop will play a role in the @GrainsAustralia Stage 2 malt accreditation next year. Ben is keen to see how it performs as a stubble management option with its dwarf plant type and strong yield potential.
It is this time of year our trial sites are aiming to get sown. In this site on the Southern Downs Qld, we are looking at Oats and the effects of crown rot and also depth of sowing. A little help from an irrigation was required to ensure planting was successful. @Intergrain1
It has been a tough start in many areas, but we do have the odd patch of with green rows popping up. #Ember barley emerging well at Jandowae, Qld. Ember is a slow maturing variety, 7-10 days slower than #NeoCL making it well suited to an early plant. @InterGrain1
Service with a smile!
WA (North) Territory Manager @richiemarsland the road today personally delivering Dale wheat seed from Chris at Australian Seed and Grain (Moora) to growers in the Dalwallinu area.
Congratulations to Peter (pictured with InterGrain's @mattynaum) and Wayne Anderson of Oakey QLD, who were announced as winners of the Toowoomba Royal Agricultural Show 2026 Irrigated Winter Crop competition with Jumbuck wheat. Grown in the 2025 season, Jumbuck yielded 7.254 t/ha. Peter said he felt there was further yield upside that could be achieved with the variety and plans to sow Jumbuck again in 2026.
@DavidTabah, Senior Wheat Breeder at InterGrain, had an opportunity at last week's @GrainGrowersLtd Grain Sustainability Forum in Sydney to present regarding BNI wheat, a key trait that InterGrain's innovative wheat breeding program is researching and developing in partnership with @jircas_direct, @CIMMYT and the @novonordiskfond. BNI wheat makes nitrogen more available to the crop by reducing losses to the environment, enabling more efficient use of applied and stored nutrition. In turn, this offers potential for Australian farmers to increase yield and grain protein per nitrogen fertiliser unit available to the wheat plant.
